View Full Version : supersprint exhausts?
My exhausts decided to self destruct , I see SJB sport are doing special offers on Supersprint systems. Has anyone got one of these fitted on a 8v Ibiza? What do they sound like as I'm not wanting anything to loud or boomy. Will a cat back system give any noticable improvement in power combined with my pipercross filter?
i have a supersprint centre section and de cat on my 1.8gti 16v the de cat has some silencing but not the centre section i would recommend spending a little more and getting the centre section with the silencer as mine does get a little annoying on long trips . fitment is as good as OE and not badly priced:cheers:
i was running cat replacement, straight centre pipe and rear box on my 96 16v ibiza, no problems apart from a bit noisey on the motorway.
i must agree with jason. get the centre box as it makes the difference on the long journeys (now running that with no probs):D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
Thanks for the tips guy's, jim at star performance has managed to get me sorted out with a system including the front box. should be here in the next couple of day's,let you know what it sounds like when i get it all put on.
Got my exhaust this morning and got it put on,what a job! didnt fit very good and its knocking on something underneath, sounds like the back axle when it moves up going over bumps. I'll go back and see the guys at the weekend and get it sorted. Its really quiet, same as standard which is just what i wanted.Havent had time to take it out the road yet to see if its made any difference but I feel a good thrash out the back roads at the weekend coming on.

Oh it get's louder after a while.... I thought mine was queiter than standard to start with but it's a bit louder now. But it's still quiet enough for long journeys. And it's a nice rumble you get too, with no boom at all. :D :D :D :D :D
Pete
when i start the car up its gives a bit of a rumble,if it starts sounding like that all the time it'll be fine.I was out in the car this morning and I cant make up my mind if it's hitting the bumber or if it's underneath somewhere,I'll try cutting a bit more out of the bumber see if that fixes it.

Ryan,
Im going to be getting star performancey to fit a supersprint exhaust fitted to my 97 16V cupra fairly soon. I would be travelling quite a distance so I want the exhaust to fit first time!! why didnt the exhaust show a rattle when you had it in to begin with??? I.E did it develop the rattle later on?? I am asking as I dont want to have to travel back and forth more than once for the same job!!
Cheers
Gerry.
I got my exhaust mail order from star performance, got local guy's to put it on as I stay about 3 hours away from Glenrothes. Jim at star performance was brilliant on the phone sorting out getting it up here for me,phoned when he said he would and was really helpful. I phoned him again yesterday and explained what's happened since I got it and again he was really nice.He says they never usually have any problems with the supersprints,I'm going to get it back up on the ramp tommorow or Friday and see if we can get it any better and if not I've just got to phone Jim back and take it from there. Don't worry,I'm sure mine's just a one off problem, been having a lot of bad luck lately!
It started banging as soon as I drove away but I was running late for work so did'nt have time to turn around and go back, sounds like it's hitting off the back axle or thereabouts. My car seems to pull a lot harder at low rev's than it used to and I'm not getting the hesitation when I accelerate that I did before so I hope I can get it sorted out.
I'm sure yours'll be fine,a lot of other people on this forum seem to be very happy with Star Performance.

thanks ryan,
Im now thoroughly assured, if star had fitted it then it would surely been spot on first time as they seem top rate!
Thanks

My exhauast on my 98 8V cupra is on its way out too, I am currently looking at getting the supersprint system and have some questions.
Does it actualy make you go any faster?
Does it look odd where the exhast pops out the back due to tha fact the standard version is hidden?
Do the fitters have to cut the plastic surroung under the bumper in order it sits correctlly?
How much was the supersprint and what pieces did you actually buy?
Did you have to tell you insurance company at all if so did you have to pay more premium?
Your help would be very much appreciated
Cheers
Kidmac
Hi kidmac, Havent had time to go a decent run in the car yet but it feels a bit quicker at low revs, seems to be better throttle response. It sits down below the bumper but I'm starting to like the way it looks now, just not used to seeing an exhaust on the back of the car but it does look good. It cost me about £250 for the full system which is'nt much dearer than a standard one and I havent told insurance yet so cant help you on that one.
Definetly worth getting, go on, treat yourself.

kidmac,
You should get the back box AND the mid section as it will keep the noise down on the motorway! For more info on the exhaust give Jim Curley at Star Performance a call on (01592) 770377
