View Full Version : SEAT Altea becomes a reality
SEAT have taken the wraps off of the new "Altea" Mid size MPV in Prototype form. The distintive design is the first Production SEAT to display the new dynamic design language which will appear on future SEATS. The Production version of the Altea is expected to debut in the UK sometime in 2004.
Andy has submitted a report and a design breakdown on the car which you can read here.
SEAT ALTEA Report (http://www.seatcupra.net/reviews.php?descrip=18/08/2003%20SEAT%20Altea%20prototype)
Also as you can see, to mark the official announcement of the ALtea prototype, with the production model now in the process of being introduced, we've now added a new ALTEA forum specific for the subjects relating to the new car.
I actually quite like it really. They've done a better job on it than they have with the forthcoming Ibiza Cupra R.
From the side its shape looks a bit like a Honda Civic Type R in my opinion.
The only things I don't really like are the grill face, and the horrible Seat logo in the middle of the steering wheel.
No doubt that the best features of the car will be removed for the final production model as per normal.
Cheers

I quite like it too, it looks at first like a well styled focus, but more funky and ahead of its time style.

...2005 in the report ;)
sorry my mistake. Its 2004
whoops
...sorry had to giggle tho :D
interestingly cardesign news mentions that the wheelbase on the Altea is shorter than the Touran
Theres also an article about it on the Autoexpress (http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/?news/ae_news_story.php?id=39216) site.
some interior shots in Auto Express itself. The concept shows a 2+2 although its expected that the rear will change to a 3 seat arrangement, as its very concept like at the moment. However, there doesnt seem like much luggage space

Well it needs to be a clear 5 or even 7 seater if its to compete with Citreon Picasso (5 seater), Vauxhall Zafira - VW Touran (Both of these can be available as 7 seaters...) Although I'm sorry I would always take a Bammer as a proper 7 seater.... MPV
Unless under that rear boot floor

(picture link from AndyB's thread within the Altea forum) are two Zafria style seats flat packed?! Then it would be a 6 seater..... (Ideal for my needs!)
But isnt this a MSU not a mini MPV?!?! Time will tell n show ...

I read somewhere that this was to be based on the Ibiza/Polo underpinnings, not on the Touran/NextGen Golf/Leon and will therefore be somewhat smaller than the Touran and NOT a seven seater - probably more like a Meriva. My impression I think is backed up by the graphics on the Seat website which show the car parked between two Ibiza's and they look the same length!
Plus there's a strange Skoda concept around based on the Fabia...god help us all!!!

Im sure i read it was based on the mkV golf platform..
Based on Mk V Golf/ Mk2 A3 platform
Sorry to ask such a gimpy question but how much more practical than, say, a Leon is the Altea gonna be?
Does anyone know how big the boot is gonna be (litres) or if there is three full width seats in the rear? (one problem with the Leon is that when there are two kids booster chairs each side there is only room for one buttock in the centre, which is deffo no good considering the size of our lasses arse).
Also any idea if there is a 'flat floor' in the rear or whether the transmission tunnel is raised ala normal cars?
Many thanks:cheers:
well according to reports its going to be a five seater like say a Focus C-Max rather than a 7. The boot doesnt look that huge on the prototype pic from Auto Express, but this was the concept car, and the boot floor seems high and this may change on the production car.
SEAT are currently updating the press site with lots of broken pages for Frankfurt, so if any pictures appear, we'll get them on line.

Prototype boot = 400 litres, not a great size considering the Leons is 340ltrs but if they could free up somewhere near the 500 litres like the Toledo but with the hatch. It would be a winner in my eyes.
