Just a quickie question about the 1.9TDI 105:
I noticed that the Golf using this engine has a front mounted intercooler. Having had a mk4 Ibiza TDI I know that this had a little side mount cooler. Just wondered whether the Beezer mk5 had the front mount off the Golf (Leon mk2?).
FMIC would be useful when tuning the engine :cheeky:

Cheers Darryl, that'd be good. I'd be interested to see what SEAT have slotted in there.
as for tuning goes what can the 1.9 mk5 goto?
i would of thought around 160bhp at least im thinking about getting one:)
Quick question on this engine, does anyone know what other VAG cars this engine has been used in? I can't find anything in googling, but im not really sure what to look for!!

This might help a little, don't know how reliable a source it is though.

Depends on the intercooler really. If it has the side mount like the mk4 Beezer then it'll map to about 135ish BHP, if however it has an FMIC then it'll probably go to about 150+ if you could get the fuelling and boost right and also assuming the exhaust isn't too restrictive. However I reckon on a SMIC.
I would think this engine is well and truly on borrowed time now though.
ino this is a bit off topic but whats the differance in room in the back of the 3dr mk4 compared to back of the mk5 3dr?
No idea on your question Imran...
Does anyone have an answer to the original question (FMIC or SMIC) as I cant find anything on the net :S

ok sorry for hijacking the thread mate:)

I've not had a proper look but from the measurements I've seen it's only the headroom that's different, the leg and shoulder room doesn't look too much different. Visiting a dealer with an example of each in stock and sitting in the rear is the best scientific answer to that one.

I've still not seen a 1.9 in stock at any of my fairly local dealers otherwise I'd go an have a look.
We need an owner on here to have a peek in the engine bay really, or a tuner that's seen one to reply.

No probs, I also hijacked the thread asking where else this engine has been used ;)
BeezerDiesel, hopefully I'll be getting my car next week so I can have a look and stick some pictures up :) but if it's down to me we have to wait till i get my car and stop driving it long enough to take some pics.

Thread hijacks can be useful for keeping it on the boil, be good to see your car when it arrives Cyph, I'm starting to see a few more mk5s & SCs on the road now but not many TDIs.

Be good to see some photos. Could be interesting for tuning gains if it does have a factory FMIC

Well I can't post the pics as my post count isn't high enough...
anyway its below the radiator... essentially its about 75 mm high & the full width of the rad - air flow appears to run from left to right (drivers to passenger side).
and of course there is plenty more room down there for a much larger one if required :)

75mm sounds a little small! Are you sure that's not an aircon rad or oil cooler?

50 mm diameter rubber feed hoses that link to the intake and under the crank toward the turbo... so I'm pretty sure its the FMIC. Couldn't see a separate oil cooler, which suprised me, but will checked the routing of the hoses again - as soon as i get 15 posts i'll post up the pics - do PM's count toward the post count, as idon't really want to spam :p

I don't think you can PM until you've got about 15 posts either.
We'll just have to keep this conversation going until you hit the magic number.
So here goes: Off topic, what do you think of the car? I've seen a few more around locally to me now and had a bit of a conversation with a 1.4 owner the other day. I think the SC looks really good with the optional 17'' wheels, not had a good look at the inside of one yet though.

Sunday could be an option, if all else fails don't forget there's a Devon meet next Sunday.
