View Full Version : Should I use a LOC for rear amp? HU has no RCA outs...

Hi all,

Just wondering what peoples preferences are towards powering a rear amp from a HU which has no low level outputs.

I've seen that safety wise, speaker level signals going to the rear can short your amp in the worst case scenario of a wire coming loose. Is there's also an interference issue with speaker cable not being shielded?

If I were to look at getting a LOC it would only be something of a budget affair like these:
Autoleads PC1-601 Line Output Connector at Halfords £6.99
or a Celsus LC2 Adjustable Converter at caraudiodirect £12.49 (£7ish on ebay)
(I dont have enough posts to link...)

I suppose I need to ask these questions in order:
How much real difference will using the speaker level inputs on the amp make?
If previous answer is 'noticable' then will a budget LOC be a worthwhile sollution?

Amp: 2 channel Alpine flex 2 MRP-T406 (40W rms)
Speakers: Pioneer TS-E6996 (80W nom)
(HU is only 50W max, so 23ish rms, hence the amp)

Waddayarecon?

Ta.

its not ideal, best method is always a replacement hu (sound quality elsewhere will improve)
so long as its earthed correctly throughout the system then you shouldnt get no interference through the cable, just make sure you dont cross pos and neg on one and not the other and youll be fine
