Hi all,

i have been reading and talking to a few people about what is a safe amount of PSI to be running on a standardish car

like chip, indcution kit, xorst, intercooler, i am told about 16PSI is a safe amount, any more could be putting to much stress on the engine and parts?

Cheers

Tony

lol @ F*rd comment :D

...I've heard 24psi figure from several people, which is a fair bit over the 14ish a std Revo upgrade gives.

Mine spikes at 20, settles around 16 with my current SPS3 setup.

Cheers mate, i suppose living with the Ford jokes comes with buying the car and the reputation that comes with it!

cheers anyway, i see 16PSI is a generally safe amount then.

mine spikes around 21/22psi and holds around 19psi and sometimes 20 in 5th. Whats the max of the K03??

Are you using SPS3 Mike? If so what settings are you using at the moment?

I've been running timing 6, high boost 4 for a few days, seemed quick at 1st but feels a bit sluggish again now .... had to fill up with SUL instead of Optimax the other day - wonder if that has anything to do with it.

Is your Revo chip specifically designed to go with Optimax only then? reason for it being sluggish??

also possibly cause of the heat?? sometimes less is more? so try switching to a low setting

also how much difference does a charge or intercooler really make, obviously cooler temperatures, but i presume it allows you to hold the boost for longer??

mine/mike20vts do this too(when weather allows)

cannot wait until the power gasget and the fmic are on to lower the temps a bit though.

Timing 6-7 on SPS3 in my experience prefer optimax to run well, especially in warmer weather.

Yeah, Should be ere soon, had a Look at gillm's FMIC at weston, Looks impressive and fairly straight forward! Definatly the way forward, just need another £200 now to get it :) and then maybe revo high 9 will come into play so u r looking 25psi boost then  plus ive seen a C02 purge kit which comes with 2 nozzles (looks like nos) so thinking of using that as an intercooler spray instead of water jets! Should look cool and 2 fast 2 furious stylee!!!!

Heat shouldn't be an issue anymore surely? What with the lower temps over the past few days and the new i/c

What do you run?

Think I'll try timing 7 / low boost 9 again and work from there.

i lowered my timing to 6 as i could smell fuel when in traffic and hot weather (rich warned me of this) and low 9 but with few mods running slightly more boost. and i have felt the hot weather but as u said U have new IC where i have not so it shouldnt be a problem for you. However I got a feeling something aint right with my car but cant figure out what it is. Just doesnt seem to have that 'kick' feeling any more! It produced good power & torque on rollers recently at 30 degrees air temp so dont know

Mine doesn't feel punchy anymore either, I think I'm just getting used to it. The Boxter driver I embarassed the other evening certainly didn't think it was lacking in punch :)

After driving a Toyota Avensis pool car for a week it felt like a rocket !!!

Only if you add enough fuel to go with the boost and intercooling to deal with the extra heat.

Its not a single up boost, more power, although is appears like that when you bung on a bleed valve and it goes like hell until it breaks.

CVH motor is not that strong to begin with, certainyl when compared to a hi-tech 20VT motor and Bosch ME7 ecu.

FYI:

anything above stock boost is way out of the small K03's efficiency range. there was an article about this somewhere and ibizas do have got the smallest of the K03s available. regarding to ibiza chips, i think a mild 1 bar chip (14-15psi max) may still be safe, but 20psi+ on a regular basis...

I've been running 20psi day in day out for nearly a year now, and i've not had any problems yet.

what setting is that on revo? Im running around 20/21psi at mo

I can only comment on my findings, if i run high boost i get poor high gear top speeds. If i have a 17-18psi spike the car is better for it. If i have a 20psi boost spike at high revs i seem to have nothing left. 17psi spike= 14psi in 4th at 5500rpm. 20psi spike=10psi in 4th at 5500rpm. 17psi spike 5th=15psi at 5500rpm, 20psi spike=10psi at 5500rpm in 5th. Only my findings may be wrong may be right....:)

I have no idea m8, i had my old APR chip upgraded to the revo program, i have no sps, as i never saw the point of chageing programs, I want me car to go as fast as possible at all times ;).

The car hits 1.4 bar mid range dropping to 1 bar then just under 0.8 bar at just over 6000 rpm.

I have found that running with normal unleaded instead of optimax, actualy makes the car boost higher in the mid range, i have saw as high as 1.6 bar sometimes. But since i only use optimax now as i get better fuel ecomony when i keep it below 100 mph, its a steady 1.4 .

1.4/1.5 bar must be set to high nine then or atleast a 'high' setting as the highest 'low' setting is 1.25bar which im running plus race n75 and downpipe etc which helped release more boost. Cant wait till I get my new IC then 1.6 bar atleast! :) :) :)

I've been running timing 7, high boost 5 tonight and it felt effin' quick :D No idea what boost that equates to...

400 quid and a 5 week wait for the i/c mate ..so i'd ring up graham and get it ordered!!! it should make a big difference when it is fitted .. i am running sps3 low-9 high-9 timing 7 fuelling with optimax... when the ambient temps are down.. ie night time it goes like a basta*d . i have bought a temp indicator from maplins and stuck it on the manifold .. its not uncommon to see inlet temps of 60 deg C (day)running this kinda boost..at this point the boost/timin is backed off and can't get much more than 17 psi out of it .been runnin this setup for a while.. attached is a map of the boost pressure

But you have a slightly different setup than most Bill. Comparing boost pressures for your motor and ones that are more as Seat intended is like comparing apples and oranges and well you know it! :)
