How does this work then?

If you get a prob in year 3 do you have to take it to the dealer you got the car from, or will any seat dealer will do the work?

Seems odd to have 2yrs seat warranty then 3rd year dealer warranty... ?

What if you buy it at dealer A, get all the servicing and everything done at dealer B, then you get a prob in year 3, will dealer A still fix it?

The way I understood it worked with the dealer backed part of the warranty was that the dealer can bill SEAT for any parts used, but not the labour. I suppose there is nothing stopping a dealer telling you to go away, but then you tell SEAT and they get heavy with the dealer.

The dealer could always say how busy he was to try and put you off;)

I guess that any dealer would do the work under the 3rd year warranty. As an aside, the SEAT warranty is 2 year, unlimited mileage, so if you are a 40k p.a. driver like me, I would be covered up to 80k (or more) miles until the car is two years old. But anything over 60k at the end of year 2, means that the 3rd year dealer warranty is null and void due to the mileage. Perhaps the moral is for me or any other high mileage user to swap after two years. No chance, can't afford that. My Cupra R will have done 150k by the time that it goes. I'll give regular reliability reports for anyone interested in the longevity of the R.

 150k on a cupra R.. but i guess that as you do the miles probably on a motorway that thats probably as good as a 50k miler which has been town driven and hard.

thats a lot of petrol to burn through :p

People often quote the shorter warranty as a reason against importing (ie you don't get the 3rd dealer year) - but if you do a high enough mileage like Robert (and myself) you effectively get the same as if you bought in the UK - a 2 year unlimited mileage.

Hmmm, lets see - assume Cupra R does 35mpg, well tuned TDI does 55mpg, and fuel for both is 75p/litre (stab in the dark figures OK, for arguments sake only).

150k in the petrol car costs £14,625
150k in the diesel car costs £ 9,306
That's over £5000 more...and why I'm a diesel convert !

It sure is a lot of petrol, but having done 150k in a diesel, I am more than happy to do the miles in a petrol. There's personal sanity at stake, which outweighs the £p. There should be no longevity issue, as sssstew says, motorway miles gives an equivalent of 50k normal wear. My V5 Tolly did 128k with no creaks, groans or oil usage to show for it.
