Hi,

Can anyone advise???

I have a Cupra R which I intend to leave completely standard apart from tints, sounds and possibly a dump valve.

I was wondering what kind of effect this will have on performance as I don't really want to loose any?...

:(

You will not loose any performance by fitting a Forge Dump Valve, you wont gain any either, what it will do though is be better than the plastic peice of crap you get with the Turbo Versions of SEAT's which are prone to breaking.

It also keeps the turbo spinning between gear changes making acceleration quicker.

A "to atmosphere" (Whoosh type) type dump valve will more than likely loose you power, due to wasting boost.

If you replace the standard diverter valve it will improve throttle responce and slightly reduce turbo lag because it recirculates the boost you are going to waste.

If you go to www.sjbsport.co.uk you can get the Forge Dump Valve that most of us have got fitted at the moment....and If John Burton sees this most he might even send you the price after New Year when he has sobered up from drinking his Port and Lemon (posh u know)

Cheers.

Dave, just out if interest m8 where did u get ur Cupra R from. the reason that I am asking is that Arnold Clark in Paisley were selling one for £14500. I think they were even willing to go lower as the car had been sitting for a good while.

dave

Gadge20vt, its still sitting there in paisley.

I got it from Arnold Clark in Clydebank.

They're assholes, and couldn't do much for me pricewise (even though I paid cash) because they knew they'd sell it anyway.

I got a few free services and a CD changer thrown in instead of a discount which is OK-ish...

I had to have it though... regardless of price.
What else can you get for that money??!!

I know what you mean about Arnold Clark in Clydebank. I tried them before I bought my car from Paisley. The salesman was only willing to offer £200 discount on a brand new car even though I didnt have a trade in and was paying cash.

dave

the dealers are not interested in cash anymore, they all want finance deals now, to make money on the interest.

Arnie Clarks of Sighthill Edinburgh are selling a Cupra R for £12995 now. Cant see that one sitting around for long at that price. So cheap coz it has got...wait for it...52 miles, yes a HUGE 52 miles!, on the clock.

Sorry - I'm still laughing.

That car was released back in May time. I saw the first one in the UK.

So - did you pay the whole 17k?

It seems to me that there are some people here determined for davemcgo not to enjoy his car.

He bought for £xxxxx , loves it to bits and then joins Seatcupra.net and gets 7 shades of shit thrown at him for buying a Cupra R for £xxxxx amount.

What a nice welcome to the site for him.

Dave, enjoy your car. If your'e happy, that's all that matters.

Brian.

Yeah, apologies geezer.

Only queried it cos it was being retailed by SEAT UK at 17K....and i personally told them a while ago that was NOT VERY CLEVER!

As long as you enjoy it...feel its worth the amount you paid for it...then enjoy the damn thing.

Safe in the knowledge you have one darn rare car in the UK......with some pukka Brembo's to boot!

See ya

I paid a shade over 14k for it.

I love my new motor - and I wish everyone would leave it alone!!

I've had the thing 2 months, and someone has hit the back, someone's keyed the passenger door, and someone at work bumped the wing in the car park, and decided not to leave a note.... now everyone in here is having a dig at it too.... AAAAAArrrrgh!!

It would appear there are more that just the people on this site determined to ruin my fun - but until someone steels the engine, the fun's only just beginning......

dave

considering the list price, and what you paid for it, u got yourself a bit of a bargain deal.

its a unique car, with some serious kit on it.

enjoy it, i know i would

i think some peeps may come across as a little over eager, but we are all here for the same thing

see you at the next traxk day?

Saul,

I'm delighted with the deal I got.

I looked at 3 cars seriously. The Ibiza, New Mini, and the new Beetle.

The mini was horrible inside, and I could only get a 1.6 bottom of the range beetle for the same money - I went to the Seat dealer the next day.....

Perhaps catch you around. I'm gonna try and make it to some of the days out this year....

Dave, before I finally decided to get my cupra, I too looked at the new mini, and the clio 172.

I agree completely about your comment on the mini's interior, very cheap and plastic. I was also put off by the lack of power the car had, no where near as powerful as I had hoped for. Although the supercharged version out soon looks more along the lines of what I was wanting.

The clio 172 is a great car, handles well, very powerful, but I just couldnt get away from thinking it looked too girly (any 172 onwers reading this please dont take offence).

Hope you enjoy your car, i might take a run up to the Strathy cruise in the next few weeks so if you are about I will come and say hello. Failling that I might see you at Crail on Feb 24th.

£14k for a Cupra R.... thats a good deal.
I'd of thought that they'd be worth more than that second hand!

On the other hand imagine how p1ssed the people that paid the whole £18k must be now.... its effectively depreciated by about £6k in just a few months.

If they were £14k when I was getting my Ibiza then I'd of gone for it... but I'd still of added the PSS9s and RSD conversion! :)

Gadge,

I'm not so sure about the Clio 172... I quite like it. The 172 just looks like much more of a beast than the girlie standard ones, and I would quite happily have driven one, but for the size of it....

Maybe catch you 'round.... if you fancy meeting up at Strathy, let me know and I'll make sure I'm there (I quite often play snooker on Sunday evenings - like last night, won myself 30 bucks...)

The price doesn't matter as long as your happy with what youve got for your cash.........whats a couple of thousand anyway.....
what about all those poor peeps who bought their leon cups for 17 k ..........

Bossack, u from Gourock. I thought that myself and Tony Mcgloin were the only one here from the Greenock are.

What kind of car do u drive?

bossack
09-01-2002, 07:53
aye mate.

Used to have a copper Ibiza cup GTI 8v, which got written off, then i had a black magic Ibiza 16v Cup GTi with white alloy, Ive got a yellow Leon 1.8T now, I'm living down the line at the moment but i'm up the road quite a lot. What ou driving at the moment:cheers:

Bossack, Did the black cupra have twin headlights and sit down the front of Gourock?

Im driving a imperial blue ibiza 1.8T cupra. Im the only one in the area with a blue one so if you see, be sure and give me a wave...

:)

bossack
09-01-2002, 12:07
nice 1 gadge

yeah thats the one with the twin headlamp conversion. hows the cup 1.8 t to drive? have you driven any other cups?

Gadge20vt
09-01-2002, 13:22
I love drivin the 1.8 turbo, it has so much power (even better once I get it chipped). Thats the only cupra that I have owned / driven. My m8 tony Mcgloin, who also uses this forum, has an older shape 8 valve cupra, but ive yet to get a run in it.

Have you done any mods to your car?

Does your car sit in the same spot as ur old black one did. Reason I ask is that I pass round the cloch road quite regular and aint ever seen a yellow one sittin there.

bossack
10-01-2002, 09:23
No mods as yet, I'm happy with the performance so far, thinking about a new dump valve. Don't like the standard alloys to small and to hard to keep clean, or the hideous grill. So some work will have to be done there, but skintoid at the momento so i'll have to live with it. I'm working in Milton Keynes at the moment, so i'm renting my flat in Gourock. I'll be up in Feburary so its not been about. You seen any Leon Cups floating about up there recently?

Gadge20vt
10-01-2002, 09:34
No mate there aint that many SEAT's about here. And definately no modded ones. Im hoping to be the first.:D

If you will be up im February would you be interested in attending Crail 1/4 mile dash on 24th? Gonna try and get a few other SEATs up for the day.

I'm only up for the first two weeks in feb , but i would have loved to have went to crail...... have you seen my bronze cupra up there R137 FNS ? I nearly bought another cupra, but i thought i would go for the Leon instead. Still can't make up my mind which one i like, both are totally different cars. The Leons a bit more grown up and less hyperactive

Gadge20vt
11-01-2002, 18:26
Bossack, thought u said that ur bronze beeza was written off? My dads m8 has a bronze one, he works in IBM, dont know the reggy number, I will have a look on Monday when I am back in work. Pity bout u not making it to Crail.

bossack
11-01-2002, 20:36
it did get written off.......but some bloke bought it off me for £1000 .....and built it back with £7000 worth of repairs..... so beware of bronze cupras from greenock... i know id have loved to have went to crail....who organizes it
