View Full Version : Leon Rear Speakers - I have info

Due to problems with water retention in my rear door I took the bold step of removing my rear door trim (thanks to Flapper's excellent trim removal guide).

The mids are riveted to the door frame and it looks as though they will have to be drilled out if you want to replace the rear speakers (as I do):( . I also noticed that the mid had a plug in connector with 4 wires!! (why four?)

The plug had a VW Audi logo with part no 130 972 704 (just in case this may mean something to someone). The plug was marked 1,2,3,4 for each connecting wire;
Wire 1 was Brown with green stripe
Wire 2 was Brown with red stripe
Wire 3 was Red
Wire 4 was Red with green stripe
Two of the wires obviously carry the sound from the H/U but anyone know what the other two cables are for??

The tweeter (a Blaupunkt BP1 according to its sticky label) made use of a 10uf capacitor (think that's what it was). It had the conventional two cables running to it; Solid Black and Black with red stripe. The tweeter was mounted on the door card by some melted plastic rivets.

As I was hoping to upgrade all of the speakers in my Leon, I've been a tad confused by the 4 wires into the mid and what I'll have to do when I've drilled out the rivets. Any help of advice would be great.

Happy New Year to all SeatCupra.net members

The wires to the tweeter seemed to come from a different part of the loom altogether. Would appreciate any info (or jpegs... hint hint ;) ) from the wiring diagrams Flapper, thanks.

Flapper,
Don't mean to nag you mate but have you had a chance to look at the wiring diagrams yet?

Judging by the sound quality on the Leon system you may find that the extra wiring is either going to or coming from a crossover unit.

For those who are unsure what that is it basically either filters the bass or treble or both to suit whichever speakers its connected to.

Of course I may be talking out of my arse and there may be some other perfectly good reason for the extra wiring....

I was told that the extra wires are part of the K Bus system in the Leon. This is part of the diagnostic system, the sound system is wired into it.

So if a speaker blows or is acting strangely it would be shown in the fault codes on a 1552 or 5051.

Not sure if this is so, only what i picked up from somewhere.

Maybe someone could clarify ??
