Well I went down to the local REVO dealer in darlington on saturday morning and got the 5Hr Demo, and all i can say is WOW!!!. I am really impressed with the increase in performance and am now trying to scrape the money together to get it for good. - Thanks to the guys there they done a great job and really knew what they were talkng about

A couple of questions that i have is:

1) I test drove a Leon Cupra R (210) when it first came out, and didn't really notice a significant increase in performance between my standard Cupra. I expected the REVO to be similar to this as it is basically putting out the same power, but it is not. The acceleration is much harder and i am relly impressed. Is the torque curve still flat after the REVO mod or is it remapped like more traditional turbo cars? - I would like to see the difference between a std Cupra R dyno plot and a REVO Cupra Plot because they feel completely different to drive.

2) The REVO modification obviously increases the boost pressure, but does anyone know what it is increased to and what it is standard? Finally What is the boost threshold if the KO3 turbo? - I am assuming that the Mod does not run the turbo outside it's limits?

Thanks in advance

your Leon R is K04 mate, not K03 ;)

Its a standard cupra mike, not R :)

I think the 210 Leon R is 199lb/ft whereas a chipped Cupra is in the realms of 230lb/ft thats hwy you notice the shove in the back.

K-03 has a max limit of 22psi i think, i think the REVO software boosts to 19psi and then settles at 17 tailing off as the revs increase.

Torque curve is reasonably flat, no massive spike in there.

PS, get the 4bar program for your Leon

Its not only the extra torque as Saul says but you also have a better power to weight...

the std Cupra is 68kg lighter than the R.

210bhp Cupra R 152 bhp tonne

210bhp Std Cupra Revo'd 161 bhp tonne

Dial in the fact that the Cupra R you drove probably had a tight low mileage engine and you can see why the R didn't feel that quick.
I test drove a 500mile Cupra R demo car against my 39,000 mile Std Cupra and the R felt barely quicker..just seemed to have a tad more pick up from 2-3000 rpm but nothing you could really point at and say Wow!.
My std Cupra is Revo'd now and its not just the 210bhp Cupra R it makes look slow...

Thanks for the replies - i thought it may have been just been my memory playing games, but the REVO cupra definetley 'feels' much more fun than the std 'R' - I am not sayin that to upset anyone here - just my humble opinion.

I am on the verge of pulling out the cheque book and getting the REVO done for good, but have a few other questions.

1) What difference will the 4 bar programme have to the 3 bar in terms of power and fuel consumption - I currently average about 28mpg, and really don't want to take a big hit on this figure.

2)If i was to upgrade, I think it would be a good idea to install a forge dump valve to protect the turbo a little more due to the increased boost - is this worthwhile?

3) Finally - I have never 'chipped' a car before, as I have been worried about overstraining the engine, but with the cupra I know that it runs at 225bhp in the Audi etc. Is the gearbox in the 180bhp the same as the 225bhp, or is it a downrated version?. Are there any difference in major components between the 180 & the 225, other than the K04 Turbo and second Intercooler?

Sorry for all the questions - just need some a little more re-assurance that i am not overstressing things!!!

Gearbox is the same MQ360 unit in all Leon Cupra's & R's. I think the ratios are slightly different on the R but apart from that its the same. Alledgedly the 360 bit relates to 360NM torque which is about 265lb/ft so you really aren't pushing the gearbox. Mines been running 285lb/ft with no problems touch wood :D If you look at Revo's site there are print outs showing power difference when running 4bar.

sorry to hyjack but it seems appropriate to ask while cupramax is here - so with IHI and 300lbft its fair to say the gearbox might take a battering as its available for a large part of the rev range ie in that zone a lot of the time rather than peaking at it every now and then ?

I think the limit on the gearbox is actually 350 lb/ft

So youre suggesting the reference MQ360 is for lb-ft and not Nm ?

Hell i'm confused more than ever now

I would be very surprised if it wasnt a metric measurment i.e. Nm as opposed to lb ft.
