View Full Version : Worth chipping my 8v?
I know this has been asked before, but I am seriously thinking about getting my 97 8v Ibiza chipped. I currently have a K and N panel filter and a Remus back box. Would a chip work better with an induction kit, or wouldn't this make a lot of difference?
I was planning to upgrade to a Leon in a few months but I won't realistically be able to afford it, so anything to make me want to hold on to my beeza is good. I've just got some new tyres which makes it a bit more interesting to throw around!
So is it really worth getting a chip? My cousin has a superchip in his 16V Cavalier and he says it doesn't make much difference. I don't want to get anything and then be disappointed, especially as I am torn between spending money on my car or upgrading my computer.
I would certainly be interested to see what power it would be pushing out with a chip as it feels quick for the claimed standard 115BHP. I also get to drive a 1.8 Focus (also 115BHP) but the difference in power delivery is huge (the Focus is crap).
Cheers,
Steve

Cheers for that Saul. I am quite tempted.
I might try and get a pipercross at the weekend and think about the chip after that.

I was told once that chipping atmospheric engines doesn't improve performance much nowadays, because engine manufacturers already try to get the highest efficiency possible.
That explains why you only gain 6%... save your money!
You might be better off with a complete front to back exhaust system.... Or spend some serious money on a faster cam. Try to contact an tuning company that tunes racing cars; they usually know what's possible.

there was a thread a while back discussing mods, a chip will give decent increases for the money, a cam will only work well if the head is flowed etc, lots of wonga, ats true a maniflod-backbox system will also help and if your going to do both, get it chipped last for full increase in power!
Before i bought my ibiza i had a Pug 205 gti (RIP) but i had a slight misshap and it ended up in a ditch. The car it self was 10 years old and been thrashed by previous owners. I has a boost valve, K&N, full exhaust system put on. Before i had it superchipped the egine handled terribly and the BHP read out was a shocking 65 brake. After chipping it was at a 105 (still below the standard) but the engine was really smooth and there where power gains. As for a 2.0 8v is it worth it........yes, the egine will be smoother and have a fast acceleration response with average BHP gains
amd wil take it from roughly 115bhp to 135 and even more torque ,not to be sniffed at for 200 odd quid:cheers:

WHAT INDUCTION KIT DID YOU USE?
I BOUGHT A PIPERCROSS PK081, JOHN AT THE DRIVERS CLUB TOLD ME SOME MODDING WOULD HAVE TO BE DONE, BUT HE COULDNT TELL ME WHAT AND HOW (I HAVE 1995 2LTR 8V GTI, THIS HAS THE AIR SENSOR ON THE TOP OF THE AIR BOX)
IVE HAD THIS KIT FOR ABOUT THREE MONTHS NOW!!
I WANN IT ON!:hammer:
Carl,
I haven't got my Pipercross yet as am confused as to which one I need. They seem to list 2, the PK081 is to fit the Gti upto '97 with Siemens Injection while the PK064 is for the Gti and Cupra Sport 97 onwards.
Mine is a 97 Cupra Sport, but I am sure it has the Siemens Injection (I remember seeing Siemens written somewhere). Halfords are supposed to be finding out for me although I haven't heard back so will probably try somewhere else.
