View Full Version : Miltek downpipe with standard back box
Hi ,
i keep hearing that the Downpipe is the most restrictive part of the system , would it be possible to just change the down pipe and use the standard exhaust system to it?.
i see an exhaust as something you change when it goes , although i am after upgrading i dont ant to spend thousands on something that perhaps i dont need.
i know there is a guy running stage 2+ Revo with his standard exhaust on his S3 which Revo themselves mapped for him.
Cheers.

i have milltek dp and cat with standard cat back on lc.. mapped to 234bhp by p-torque stage 2.. no issues at all.
Hello,
Although there is information about on the apparent advantage of changing the first xx inches of downpipe, (As the exhaust Turbine gases are still expanding hence a larger downpipe will reduce the pressure – which will be reflected across to the pre turbo exhaust manifold pressure – and hence less residual exhaust gases will be present in the cylinder - All in an ideal world anyway) this is not something that we have ever tried – on any car, be it a 1.8T or 2.0TFSI etc.
Therefore this is not something that I can provide any first hand experience on. The standard cat back exhaust would then become the next flow restriction. Manufactures have different criteria for their exhaust designs, acoustics etc all pay a big part but this can sometime impact the flow of gases or the pressure that they will drop.

Thanks for the reply.
whats the difference in diameter between the SEAT cat back exhaust and Miltek?
i could do some calcultions on flow
I can tell you that the Milltek Cat back is listed as 2.75" for a TFSI cupra.
I am not sure on bore sizes through the silencers though.
As for the standard car, I cant remember off the top of my head sorry.
no worries , thanks for your help.
would you see any harm in fitting the miltek downpipe and mating it up to the standard exhaust?
To be honest with you, I would really want to look at the two items together before advising.
As this is not something that we have tried before I am a little uncomfortable to advise 100%
The next time that we have a Cupra TFSI in, I will take a look.

I don't have a cupra but when i went to look at one in the showroom one of the first things i did was to look under the car and check out the zorst setup. It looked good to me.
Having owned an LCR with several exhausts fitted to it i'm tempted to leave my 3inch DP and sports cat in place and refit the factory setup and try it. Not only is cost a factor but any high flow system will increase noise and my pet hate is the high pressure noise a system makes whilst its cold and the engine is warming up. Once its up to temp its fine but can sound a little chavy whilst getting there.
My advice would be ditch the stock DP and CAT and replace with a high flow setup. Keep the standard cat back Zorst. It will sound louder than stock since the restrictive cat has been replaced.

Thanks for that , look forward to hearing.
