View Full Version : Last night I was mostly wasted by...
...a Cavalier of unknown type and a old style Renault Megane 2.0.
Kept 'em both accelerating as they tried to overtake me. I chickened out with Renault Megane because he was in more of a hurry to loose his license than I was.
Anyway... my question of the day is this, oh Arosa Sport owners. What do you / did you (driveforward ;) ) find that the best tactic for accelerating into say a de-restricted bit of road from a 30 is / was? Last night I was in 3rd out of a 30 but in hindsight wondered whether 2nd might have been a better bet? It comes down to me feeling that the car is slow to get moving below 4000 rpm!
Thoughts?

With my car (same engine!) I find 3rd to be my weapon of choice...can't say I've ever used 2nd to accelerate away.
Fair enough!
How do you find such a small engine in such a relativley big car (compared with my Arosa anyway!)?
Ta for the reply,

Chris,
In my Sport I use 3rd and it pulls very well - I have a Pipercross induction kit though which has helped a little.

Matt,
Yeah, it does pull well, I was just miffed I got wasted by a Megane 2.0... although they are 150 Bhp 0-60 8.6 so I suppose I shouldn't be too bothered!
Although I did finally manage to have a crack at a 106 Quiksilver. I was behind this very boy-racer looking girl in her "Quikie" and she gave me the look through the rear view. She nailed it off this roundabout so naturally I did too :)
Initially, the 106 seemed to pull away a bit but as soon as my revs hit about 3500 rpm I caught her up very quickly and managed to sit on her bumper till about 60, where I quit playing because the road was wet and another roundabout was approaching.
A VW Beetle did a similar thing. Shit slow!

Although I've never pushed my sisters car very hard (obviously)... ;)
I've found that because the engine is very peaky, to keep it "on the boil" you really need to keep the revs above 4000rpm to get the best out of it.
Anywhere below that it gets bogged down. Kinda reminds me of my old 106XSi - again, 100bhp from a 1.4 (but this was 8v rather than the Arosa's 16v) and you really needed to abuse it to get the best out of it.
Fun, tho :D
the quicksilvers are good cannon fodder to race but its much more fun with the gti's young lads paying over £3000 a year on insurance lookin in his mirror and stressin cos he is gettin pushed down the road by a rossa

you are saying a standard arosa is keeping up with a 106GTI?
No, he's saying his tuned TDi Arosa will keep up with it. :)

Sorry i correct myself, just worked out the BHP/Tonne figures for both cars and not much difference!
can understand you keeping up with one.
how embarrasing for the GTI owner
 :D ;) :p
What, an Arosa Sport can keep up with a 106 GTi?!?

ah right
sorry mis read it
yes can understand a tuned TDI keeping up with one but not a normal Arosa sport!
i have been followed home before now by a 206 GTi wondering what engine was in it. he was gutted when he found out it was a diesel
i have found that bhp does'nt seem to matter as much as torque for the acceleration i went to york dragway and for the first 1/8th of a mile i was getting the same times at my mates civic vti with 170bhp i just tent to loose power over 70 mph and he was winning by just under a second Must get that NOS kit sorted:devil:
