Have a std. Leon Cupra yr 2000. APP engine code.
Haven't tried out the Revo demo yet, but I just know that when I try it out I am going to want it. Because its an APP engine, I dont expect much more than about 195-200bhp anyway.
Just phone elephant.co.uk to find out what the increase in
premium is going to be.
Paid 720ukp. 8yrs no claims protected. 30yr old. Medium Risk
area. 18k miles/yr.
They want an extra 314ukp for an 11-25% increase, thats for
8 months cover to the end of the current insurance. Or 35 quid
for 0-10%.
So, 195/180 = 1.08 or 200/180 = 11%
For 11-25% sounds quite steep to me. For those with a similar car to me, what kind of increase did you get?
Insurance companies only seem to be interested in bhp figure and not torque figures, which is the big hike.
Is all this extra expense worth it? What a dilema huh? :D After all you only live once!
Cheers,
I would say that 10% is a fair 'best guess' estimate
i mean
that's what you'd get if you ran it on 95RON on Timing 1 low boost 2
:)

Goto a performance specialist insurer.
I'm with Greenlight insurance and I'm very pleased with my policy, and I keep adding more and more things to the car and they just say "Thats OK, we'll note it on your policy, but no charge!". :)

If you're going to declare to the insurance people, there are cheaper options than the REVO software. My point of getting the REVO was cause it's very hard/impossible to detect. Having said that, I'm very very impressed with the performance increase the REVO has given my LCR though! :D
Apparently Liverpool Victoria are Mod friendly..
Also watch your excess doesn't go up. Mine went up £200! (Now £700) with Tesco - 32, Full no claims and clean licence (touch wood!!). The rest sounds average.

Cheers guys.
I really don't know why insurance is expensive for me.
30yrs old, no fault claims in 8yrs, 8yrs no claims. Squeeky
clean license and yet I get stung 720ukp with a 250ukp excess.
Although I do do 18k miles/yr, although if you shop around on most internet insurers mileage makes hardly any difference.
I guess it must be my area. Although I don't live in a city, I just live in a normal housing estate on the out skirts of Havant.
Although a bit "iffy", no worse than other housing estate, we don't get any hassle with vandalism at all. (Famous last words!).
I checked with Elephant, the only change was the increase in premium. Excess and terms+conditions stayed the same. (no extra conditions like garage etc..).
I guess I'll have to phone around and see what better deals I can get.
Cheers,

Very ... apparantly they charge a 15% premium which covers UNLIMITED engine mods.
Use them now and they also insured my pretty highly modded Saxo (engine swap / cams etc...) for a good price.

Really ? So if I'd modded a VTS (group 14) they wouldn't have touched me but me putting a VTS engine into a VTR (group 7) plus toys is perfectly ok ??
The crazy world of motor insurance!

Not declaring: I don't think I would like to run the risk of
an insurance company finding out my car was remapped (and it was undeclared), even though it was set to Stock Mode when some tw*t piles into the back of me thus writing my car off.
Kiss good-bye to 10k.
Besides, I've called them now and therefore my enquiry has been recorded! Insurance companies do talk to each other via a database to help prevent fraud.
My reasons for thinking about Revo are:
a) I like the idea of somebody not taking a soldering iron to my ECU.
b) I live in the Portsmouth area. Pretty much no-one other than Revo dealers down here. No AMD Dealers down here, a Jabba dealer over Southampton way.
c) I can sell the car set to stock mode without anybody ever knowing.
Cheers

Very sensible.
a, b & c are good points.
If you do go Revo I'd avoid Regal in s'ton - I and several others have had bad experiences there and they know next to nothing about the VAG engines.

had the same dilema, used to have an escort 1.6 16v, group 8/9 and i could have put a 2.0 Turbo lump in plus toys for a few hundered quid on the policy but have a standard turbo motor and NOPE!!!
Go figure!!

Excellent. I think they will be getting my call come renewal time. What are they like re. excess?

Don't insure Manchester, Liverpool or Wales...
...even though some areas of Wales have the lowest calim rates in the UK (according to something I read somewhere!)
Oh, and Seat insurance said they won't quote me until I'm 30... so I asked if that meant I could drive for the next 9 years uninsured... ... ...

I think mine was £450....
...just left them though. They wanted close to £800 on renewal, Adrian Flux quoted £569

Extra 120 quid with Direct Line for Revo, for the rest of my policy year (runs out in April), so approx 250 quid annual increase on top of a standard premium of about 550. Still, at least I don't own a Zonda...
Had a bit of a problem explaining to the bloke what was being done to the car - when they ask you what parts are being changed and you say "none of them" it confuses them.
I am insured with direct line and am very happy with them, £850, 23 4 yrs no claims, full clean license. Not looking into chipping (yet:p) as im very happy with the performance of my 2000 APP cupra, well i would be when i upgraded from a 1.8 vectra ls
Hi All,
I'm investigating Revo for my TDI. I'm with Direct Line who wanted an extra £50 for the last 4 months of the policy and £300 excess instead of £150 (so fairly reasonable).
Also, I emailed Regal in southampton about getting it done and they quoted me at £586 with no RR service!! Extortionate! Does anyone know of a good place round Soton / Pompey way to get Revo'd up?
Many thanks,
Mack:o :)
pragmatic in liphook
wouldn't bother letting regal run it on the RR anyway - they'll only bugger it up (from past dynoplot evidence)
MikeP is the owner (on here somewhere)

This is right at £499+VAT but isn't the TDI code supposed to be £399+VAT? Did you tell them what car it was for?
