On the Road today my Sat Nav colour display unit seemed to be going Dark then Bright.? First I thought it was my eyes, then when switching into Audio mode and displaying the cd changer display it was still happening. It was if there was a lack of power to the display unit.? Display going from dark (but still viewable) to the Nice Clear Bright display the Unit has.
Have I got a faulty Sat Nav unit (just happening) or am I missing something obvious.
When I first got the Sat-Nav unit it went dark as soon as you turned the ignition on... if this is what is happening then I think you need to have a look at the settings menus.
Unless you make changes to the defaults, it will automatically go into 'Nighttime' mode as soon as you turn the ignition on. This can be turned off. There are also settings to adjust the contrast.
Hopefully this is what you need to know, but if it is an intermittant fault I would pop the unit out of the dash and make sure all the plugs are pushed in firmly.
I seem to remember that if you turn the lights on then this may have an effect to the contrast/colours, so maybe it is something wrong with this. Basically, as soon as I got the unit, I disabled all the automatic functions to get it do do what I wanted.
Funnily enough I noticed this on my Sat Nav this morning. It seemed really dimly lit.
I then recalled I adjusted the dash illumenation level the other day with the little thumb wheel. So turned this right up high and sure enough the brightness increased on the Sat Nav display. However, it seems to need to be right up high for the Sat Nav display to be at it's normal brightness ???
I will check out the settings as suggested by Phil above, but it does appear to be linked in some random way to the dash illumenation control too. Very odd.

Stu,
As luck would have it a( and before I read your post)on my way out in the car today I did turn up the thumbwheel dashboard light as i had my sidelights ON.
Hey presto there's the Sat Nav back to Full Illumination again.?
What is interesting though is I fiddled with the thubwheel up and down up and down and yes you guessed it illumination from Dark to Light. Here's the mystery though, coming back tonight tried the same thing but 'NO Dimming' Weird.???
Would appreciate any feedback form yourself and other V5 owners as this seems to me like somethhing random.
There's also a light sensor on the front(just inderneath the eject button for the CD next to the security LED) which varies the contrast of the screen depending on the ambient light level. So when the sun is out the screen is bright and at night it dims it so you don't go blind!!
If you stick your finger on it and wait a few seconds it goes dim...Cool!!!!!!!!!!!

Have only had my V5 a few days so am guessing here, but could the dimming not work in the evening due to sensor fixing light levels due to light conditions?
Just tried it and if you have the interior light on you can vary the brightness, but when it's completely dark the dimmer has no effect at all screen just stays the same.

Thanks Lads,

Have they thought of everything.??:p
Have they thought of everything.??
Almost ! My only wish for the V5 is that they had put some audio
controls on the steering wheel.
Maybe I am just being too fussy .........:D
And maybe a rear wiper for those horrible damp mornings!!!
And maybe a rear wiper for those horrible damp mornings!!!
I hear what your saying mate....I have to clear my rear screen by hand of a morning when it's covered in water. But as handy as the rear wiper would be it would look sooooooo wrong on the Toledo - IMHO.
I know what you mean, rear wipers aren't cool on a saloon that looks sooo good!
Mind you Rain X can save a bit of agro
