View Full Version : Centre armrest fitted at last!!!
I fitted my centre armrest on Saturday.
For those interested, it took roughly 2 hours. Tools I used were:
6mm Socket
torx socket (not sure on size)
13mm deep type socket
Screw driver
5.5mm drill & electric drill
Electric Jig Saw with fine blade
Magnetic pick-up tool (for the bast*rd captive nut spring that I kept pinging off)
I didn't have to remove the centre console....that would have been an extra head ache (removing electrical connectors and the Diagnostic plug), and it looks quite smart really.
Nice one!!, do you think it is going to get in the way of gearchanging at all ?, and does it ake driving comfyer?

Great Neil,
Do you have any piccies?
The only think it gets in the way of is the handbrake, but you soon get used to it.....
The arm rest can be folded right up, or put in 3 positions when down. I find in the middle position its just right for resting my arm and changing gear, the upper position is good for long distance motorway journies where you can rest the arm while holding the steering wheel.
I will have some pictures, unfortunatly I forgot to get some while doing it, so I will have to do some....

When I first had mine installed it did feel that it was getting in the way of the gear changing and especially the hsndbrake, after a while I got used to it and its very comfortable when driving. Sometimes you have to move it up when you want to use the handbrake (i.e. handbraking in the snow!) but I tend to leave it down most the time now.
Also acts as a handy storing place :)

I'm dreaming of having this in my Ibiza, well first it must arrive from the dealer... describe the procedure with some pictures or so that we can do this to + the prices and part names.
Where did you fix it. In the seats or behind the hand brake
Thanks
Nice, but thinking about it, the wife would probably hog the whole armrest so probably not worth it for me!!,
How much did it cost?
That is the only problem with an armrest - the passenger thinks they have a right to use it!

Mine supplied and fitted from the dealer cost £250 or there abouts.
Mine was fited at dealer. Nice extra storage. I'm now thinking of how to fit the cell's phone hands free kit in it?
I had a MK4 VW Golf at the same time that I picked up my Leon and I kept punching the arm rest nearly everytime I wanted to get something from the back seat of the VW because I just couldn't get it through my head that I was driving the GOLF not the LEON  , so I have been put off an arm rest due to weeks of RED knuckles.
Although now that I don't have the Golf anymore I might consider fitting one, to try and get some more storage and I am sure I would have learnt after I started making myself bleed :)

£105 (discounted price) from dealer plus 2 hours fitting, and thats 2 hours for someone who hates using drills and jigsaws on cars:D
