View Full Version : Battery and Engine Covers
Was browsing Audi-Sport.net earlier, and spotted a nice mod that would suit the Exeo....
Battery and Engine covers, to tidy the engine bay up a little.
Here's the thread on ASN providing the details:
http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/showthread.php?t=68758
Part Numbers required (probably Audi only) are:
1) 8E281944701C (main scuttle area cover) £12.22 + vat
2) 8E2819422A01C (small cover that attaches to above one, to cover battery) £4.99 +vat
3) 8E0103927D01C (RS4 cover, that covers the right hand side of the engine bay) £12 + vat)
4) 8H0103928 (cover that goes behind the airbox to cover the pipework) £11.23 + vat
Total's about £40 ;)
These are on my shopping list for TPS on Saturday, so I'll post up some pics at the weekend hopefully ;)
Hello Andy,
I saw these the other day, I did ask one of the guys, I was on the B7 section, and I didnt get to finding out the part numbers.
I will give Audi a call, see if the prices are roughly the same & how long for delivery
Well done!
Stu
I did spot you post in one of the B7 threads ;) and replied to it to!
Think we might need to start a thread listing all the A4 mods that can be applied to the Exeo ;)
The next thing to bear in mind, is does this void any warranty ?!? ;)
Have edited my first post with all of the part numbers needed ;)
I've also PM'd one of the guys on ASN who seems to be able to supply VAG Parts, for a price ;)
those 3 make a fair old tidy job of it for sure
looks smart
Prices from Derby Audi:
1) 8E281944701C £11.53 + VAT
2) 8E2819422A01C £4.72 + VAT
3) 8E0103927D01C £12.05 + VAT
4) 8H0103928 £12.05 + VAT
So total (inc vat) = £46.40
Just waiting for a reply from the guy on ASN....
The guy on ASN can't really beat the main dealer prices, as there isn't much margin to be made on them apparently.
Still not a bad price from the main dealer though ;)
Well done Andyj, you have been very busy!! Good idea that, about A4 parts fitting Exeo's. I am trying to find out from Milltek if their cat back system for an A4 avant 170 Cr will fit our motors. Have not had alot of luck yet :(
Stu
The only problem I can see if that mate, is that the Exeo is based on the B7 chassis, but the CR engines didn't get used until the B8 chassis (from what I can make out anyway!)
The B7 A4's used the 2.0 PD engine I think, but I might be wrong....... there's always a first
Hi All
I have already fitted the battery cover on mine. I am only short of the ECU cover (top left of engine bay as viewed from the front). It looks abit of a fiddly job to change ths cover over, as the screws at the back of the lid are below the wiper stub!!
What has been done so far looks good thou.
Nice one mate, we need pics though ;)
I still haven't got round to ordering mine yet, think I'll wait until after Christmas!
Andyj
Bit of a problem with photo's. Car covered up & stored as I'm unable to drive at the moment due to surgery.
As soon as is possible I will post some.
No worries mate :)
From the pics I've seen of the A4, it really tidies up the engine bay, and stops it looking like it's half-finished!
Hi All Happy New Year
Finally got the car uncovered. Took some pics of what's been done so far. Looks OK to me!! Your views please.
Hope this work

Think all I need now is a 8H0103928 to finish it off. Not shore if the cover is a direct replacment or not? Any one know?
Also thinking of changing the wheels as with P6000's tyres fitted which have no rim protection, the rims are very scuffed (not by me!!) fancy black ones.
Think I may also consider having it Revo'd aswell later.
Hi All
Can ant one confirm that the ECU cover I require to finish this mod off is a direct replacment for the one coming off.
Pt No 8H0103928 I was given is for A7 Cabrio.
Regards
That part is the one that should cover the pipwork behind the airbox on the left hand side (when looking into the engine bay from the front of the care) of the engine bay.
Can't confirm as yet, as I haven't bought any of the covers yet!
You can see the section to be filled in on the second photo on post 15 of this thread.
The part is only orderable from Germany (which takes 6vdays) & is none returnable & have to pay up front.
So you can see why I need to know it will fit.
Ah right, I think that part is actually designed to cover the area on the left of your 3rd pic, to the left of the engine cover.....
Just trying to find a pic, but can't find one!
However, I have found a pic of an A4 with the cover you're after, fitted......
http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/showthread.php?68758-Engine-Covers&p=699608#post699608
That's the bit I want, but I think you have to replace the ECU cover which is screwed onto ECU base.
Found a pic of the cover fitted:
http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?291991-Engine-Panel-Installed!
(it's a LHD car, so the ECU Cover you're after is on the RH-side of the 1st pic)
That's the beast, but it's on the other side on a RHD.
Looks like this guy is also missing the same cover.....
http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/showthread.php?82362-Battery-cover-help-needed
I'll reply to his thread, and see if he's been able to find it ;)
Also added a post to this thread asking if anyone knows the part number:
http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/showthread.php?68758-Engine-Covers&p=915120 ;)
That's the beast. :funk:
Still no info on ASN :(
But I have found some info over on the US Audi forum Audizine:
http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?278398-Engine-bay-cover-install
Hi All
Has anyone actually done this mod yet. I am having great trouble getting the ECU cover.
I have had several covers from both Seat & Audi but none of them fit.
I've still not got round to it yet !!
Hi All
Well I again went to pick up the ECU cover from Audi (very helpful people) The part number that's on this forum. It's not the correct bit.
It now makes me think that Seat are using a different ECU cover & box it sits in.
If anyone can take this further please be my guest, I have been trying for months to finish this modification off. I now give up!!!!!! [:@]
SORRY!
Nightmare mate! Sounds like you're right in thinking that Seat aren't using a standard Audi ECU/Box :(
I haven't even had chance to order any of the covers yet

These covers are really needed, especially the one that covers the battery.
Last week I had a look under the hood and found lots of snow on the battery. The positive pole was covered, the negative pole wasn't covered.
Have ordered the covers from Germany (Autohaus Plaschka KG (http://www.online-teile.com/vw/index.php)) last Monday.
It's a shame that Seat doesn't deliver the Exeo with these covers fitted by default.

Just wondered if anyone has managed to get a full set of covers including something for the ECU (especially as I've read a couple of posts about water getting into the ECU box and mucking things up).
Hi All
Still not managed to get the ECU cover. A very nice man at my local Audi ordered most of the covers on there computer system but none of them matched the fixing for the one on the Exeo.
Still looking to get a cover to fit.
I have just taken delivery of an SE Tech & have transfered the cover over to the new car.

Be aware what type of cover you order (item 3, 8E0103927D01C).
It has to be secured against the coolant expansion tank with a bolt.
I ordered the cover with pn. 8E0103927F but this can't be secured against the coolant tank as it should be.
The issue is that the coolant tank differs per engine.
Normally its secured like is illustrated below:
http://www.seatforum.de/forum/picture.php?albumid=1554&pictureid=10273
Unforntunately my tank looks like this:
http://www.seatforum.de/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=19183&d=1287241930
I've also installed a rubber gasket (8E0823731B) around the engine compartment to prevent dust/sand entering the engine:

Note: the above images are not from my car but from a German forum (http://www.seatforum.de/forum/showthread.php?t=59377)

"I've also installed a rubber gasket (8E0823731B) around the engine compartment" - thanks I hadn't even considered that one, is that an Audi part no. or a SEAT one? It doesn't exactly fill you with confidence that SEAT have skimped with things like this, it makes you wonder what else they've done to shave off the odd euro here and there.
By the way, the ECU cover in the picture above seems to fit OK, is that because it's the petrol engine with a different ECU? I wonder if it would be possible to keep the original ECU box and take a hacksaw to an Audi ECU cover so that it can be attached to the main skuttle cover with black silicon sealent or somthing similar and extends over the original box?
I have to admit, I've never actually got round to buying the covers to be honest!
However, I'm liking the 'dust seal', had a similair thing on my Leon, and it was brilliant at keeping the engine bay dust free. Will have to enquire if it's available through Seat, or Audi only.....

... and here's another one for you, don't some A4s come with wadding on the underside of the bonnet? Opinion seems to be split as to whether this is for sound insulation or to protect the paint on the bonnet from the heat of the engine.

It's an Audi part no. and it's easy to install.
The covers for the ECU and battery fits no matter the type of engine.
It only the cover around the washer fluid reservoir the can give some problems with securing it.

Just to add my two penny worth. My last car was a Passat B5.5 with a full set of covers as standard. Unfortunately they didn't keep the water out - I part-exed the car partly due to water in the passenger footwell and the electrics going crazy when it rained:(
I was surprised to see only the small cover over over the pollen filter on the Exeo, however it may be a blessing in disguise. I am am now able to keep an eye on leaves and any blockages. There was a particular place, in the Passat, where a muddy deposit would build up and prevent rainwater draining away. Due to the covers being in place, this didn't get cleaned out as often as it should (out of sight, out of mind)

A friend of mine has a 2 year old A6 which he bought from a main dealer about a month ago, we had a look under his scuttle cover today (they too have the double firewall design) and found it full of leaves and other vegitation, so it would appear to be quite a common problem.

Can anybody think of a reason (other than cost cutting) why SEAT chose not to fit the engine bay gasket? All I can think of is that maybe when driving at speed it channels rain around the side of the engine bay and up into the plenum between the two bulkheads. In which case I'd guess that the lesser of two evils would be for the rain to go Into the engine bay and out through the bottom onto the road underneath.
Just spotted that you can buy the full cover pack on ebay for £95 + p&p
Think you're better off just ordering from Audi for about £40 ;)
I'm deffo ordering the 2 scuttle covers. Looks like 20 quid inc vat. I'm not really interested in the other bits tbh.
They were in stock at my local Audi dealer, cost me £20 for the 2 scuttle covers. Looks way better.

Don't forget to install the rubber gasket around the engine bay. See this topic, item 6: Link (http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=312170)
This rubber gasket prevents dust, sand and water entering the engine bay from under the bonnet.
Anyone found a part number for the ECU cover? I had to hoover out loads of leaves today. There must be a cover that fits.

Are you looking at the ECU directly???
The ECU should be placed in a plastic with a cover.
ETKA gives the following:
- Cover water box (rhd) : 8E1 907 613 E <-- E marks the rhd
See for a lhd illustration here (http://www.auto-parts.spb.ru/cat/au/au.mycat?SelPg&t=FC1eS8gtXkuKLV5LVnc2ciVsB21HdHy3sx9eSyNy3nsUbVy09Qt_SRQJf1wUDV7CBGWvfiUZX9jGIBFqFkREdlK0RGnSv/RqEW86vnqbGcrSqsDXXrQ0zd8VdQ9UbBSqG41MUM6hNjlQ_woVBcAYJw6sfjg23FFUtY38TqF/E/NYh4hlIbPQuigeh2a/z7RG5cI5a5u7NSSQlU3Igg3ds6_/d4mQrEmuLb0=) or here (http://audi.vag-zapchasti.ru/list.php?id=30152&mod=A4&year=2008)(item 2).
Further you need a couple of M6 hexagon socket bolts and nuts. Maybe cheaper to those from a local DIY shop.

Sorry!! I am wrong!
Wrong cover, continue searching...
.::EDIT::.
Nope I am right.
The cover over the ECU should look like the one on the pictures below.

http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6045/5901291412_b7b54fa750_b.jpg
As shown in various pics above, my Exeo came from the factory with a poverty spec pollon filter cover like so (8E2 819 447 A I think)
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g217/nathwarr/140CACNL49T.jpg
Seeing as how there doesn't seem to be an ECU cover that gives a proper finished look I was thinking of getting a LHD poverty spec pollon filter cover and doing a bit of a mod to make the skuttle look finished.
Any ideas on the part number for the LHD pollon filter cover?
I guess that Mcdonanld has removed his LHD one and thrown it away?
mcdonald

The number of the lhd cover for the dust-pollen filter is: 8E2 819 447 (without A)
Price is appr. 10,- GBP.
You could place rubber (8E0823731B) on the edge of the engine bay. I've done it on the front part only but I'm thinking of extending it a little. You'll need 2 pieces of rubber for the complete engine bay.
http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb422/mcdonald3072/Seat%20Exeo/exeo_motorrubber.jpg
Thanks very much mcdonald, I will be ordering a LHD one and doing a little cutting to make it fit with the battery cover. I will probably order the rubber too.
More rep on it's way :)
OK so this is my engine bay and as you can see it's a bit untidy looking in the top left where the ECU is
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g217/nathwarr/Picture213-1.jpg[/
And here is a tidy looking engine bay with an ECU cover that fits
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g217/nathwarr/2005_audi_a4_avant-pic-5977915156849898030.jpg
So, before I buy a LHD pollon filter cover and do a cut and shut on it does anyone know the part number for the ECU cover shown in the second pic of the TDIV6 engine bay?
I'm going to dig around in Etka and see what I can find

Think the issue is that different engines have different ECU's and housings.
This engine has the same issue:
http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l537/gphilla/photo.jpg
This one not:
http://www.mattstevens.co.uk/car/28-12-2010/IMG_0369.jpg
This engine is the same as mine and I have the same ECU. It fits well with the water cover:

i never even thought of different colour engine covers
does anyone know if seat do the main cover in the centre in any different colours??

Removed the water covers today and had a look at the cover on top of my ECU.
This is not seperate cover, it's the cover of the ECU housing and is bolted to this housing.
It's the same as the one in the bottom picture of my previous post (#57).
As ECU housings differ per engine (petrol or diesel) I guess that some of these housings don't fit well with the water covers as is in Naths case.
mcdonald
14-02-2012, 20:36
Made a short list of the part numbers of the housings and covers for the control units for petrol and diesel engines for lhd and rhd according to ETKA for the SEAT Exeo:
Petrol engines (rhd):
Housing control unit: 8E2 907 355 D
Cover water box: 8E2 907 613 D
Diesel engines (rhd):
Housing control unit: 8E2 907 355 D
Cover water box: 8E2 907 613 E
Petrol engines (lhd):
Housing control unit: 8E1 907 355 C
Cover water box: 8E1 907 613 D
Diesel engines (lhd):
Housing control unit: 8E1 907 355 C
Cover water box: 8E1 907 613 D
As you can see the housing is for both petrol and diesel engine the same. For rhd cars they use a D- or E-type cover, while lhd cars seem to use a D-type cover only (typo in ETKA?).
I guess Nath has an E-type cover instead of a D-type cover. Not sure if the D-type will fit with his ECU.
skuttle cover/ECU cover Blue Peter mod.
Before with a big gap where the ECU is
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g217/nathwarr/Picture213-1.jpg
I used the old pollon filter cover and modded it to fit on the left to cover the ECU

Nice work, looks a bit tidier now.
For anyone interested, there's a pollen filter cover on ebay for about £7......
