Just read in Top Gear the new Golf GTI will have 200BHP! thanks to a two litre turbocharged FSI engine. :D
0 - 60 in 6 seconds and max speed is 150mph, redline speed is 7000 RPM.

i have heared at wotrk (audi) that there is going to be a turbo version of the 2 litre FSI.
Also Audi are working on a new 5 cylinder engine.

Yup so reckon this is the next Cupra engine then...
Only 200 bhp then? I'll have to slow down for em then..

They are putting the 2.0 Turbo FSI in one of the new A4's soon.

New Golf GTI or Leon Cupra R .... ???

Handling wise the new Golf should be leaps and bounds ahead - all new chassis with that all important multi link rear suspension. I see the new Golf has nicked the SEAT boot badge idea

I noticed that too.

The only other thing is you can get more goodies on the Golf.

Now I am probably up for a new one in 6months, do I get a Cupra R and f*ck it, or wait until the end of the year and get the Golf GTI .... but then what if I wait and then they change the model to the latest pictures and I regret not getting the R ???

Or just get the R and after 2 yrs get the GTI then ..

From my experience its not always good to get a car that has just come out. My Mini Cooper had a lot of teething problems and there were constant recalls. A friends sister bought one of the new Micras and also had all sorts of problems. I would be inclined to go for the Cupra R and/ or wait a while before getting the new Golf if its what you really want.

I see what you are saying.

I do like the new Golf and would like something different, but in the same respect I do also like the R. The one thing that dissapointed me about the Cupra was the looks, if looked the same as all the other Leon's.

At least on the R they have changed the grey platic for black which hides the cheap look more.

Are they ever going to release Xenon's for the Leon ?

A year after release they'll be 8 trillian Golf GTIs out there ;) So much for individuality... Still, you're right - more toys than the R (but then the std. Cupra has that too) but it all depends on what you want.
The new Leon Cupra (or R) should be much more interesting, particularly if they're allowed to take the next logical step with it - 4 wd. I reckon this might be a possibility as VAG seems keen on making SEAT they're 'naughty sporty' division for those not into badges (i.e. Audi). It would take 4wd drive to tempt me away from my current car - anything else comes up short. I already have power, handling and good looks IMHO.
You can get Xenons now for the leon if you want.. there's a thread running on this now. Personally i've no complaints with the norm lights and vision plus (at least not so i'd want to spend 400quid replacing them!).
Wait six months, see what happens IMHO. The R is being seriously overpriced atm so better to wait until theres a few lying round in stock at dealers and their not taking the mick with 'no discounts' :) I would never pay full price for a car, irrespective of what it is!

Hey ne, hope you are not thinking of trying to pinch my 'faffing' championship crown, yer not getting it :saber: ;) :D

Nevermind the Golf, it'll probably be at least 20k, still be slower and no doubt less tunable because of VW/Audi clamping down on their electronics.

Just thought you could do with a little friendly competition to keep you on your toes ..

Well that's true i suppose, after all since syphon got all decisive about things there's not really been anyone else close enough to call competition ;)
