Yesterday I had the Leon Cruise control fitted, supplied by APR and fitted by the nice people at Awesome GTI.

The system is superb, and as you probably know it is a VW factory stalk. ive supplied a couple of pics for you to look at.

Very worthwhile and adds an extra feature to your car. Good come selling time to i reckon :)

Mark,

How much was it and how long did it take?

Depends where you have it done but, its priced at around £175 plus VAT.

That includes The factory VAG cruise indicator stalk and wiring loom, and then the fitting time and configuration of the ECU.

Should take around 1-2 hours to fit.

Any thoughts on the DIY kit that Neil (TDi 110) bought for £50?

It seems a lot cheaper, so id the extra £125 for fitting, or do you think that the stalk that Neil has is no the original Vag stalk?

Seems quite a large difference!

Not sure how DIY it is, i presume it could be done. But you'll need to wire in the new stalk into the loom, not that easy if your not experienced.

Then you'll require a 1552 VAG computer to configure your ECU so that the option can be turned on.

Most of the cost involved i take is for labour, as the £50 is for the Stalk and wiring.

Takes a while to strip down a Leons wheel, and all the airbag must come out, personally if you've got access to the equipment and you've got the knowledge then i think yes save ya self some dosh.

But i'd prefer to pay someon who knows what their doing especially when removing airbags and ECU configuring.

Maybe it is a little pricey, but from what i saw its not a simple job, maybe simple to achieve, but maybe complicated to do.

Fair nuff....!!

As i said anyway its good and works well, i think you'd manage to scrape back that outlay anyway when you come to sell. Being a fairly useful feature that you cant even get as an option on a UK car.

:D

It is an original stalk, I got it (the kit) from a VW dealer in a VAG box, with VAG instruction manual etc.......

They also do a kit for the Golf Mk3 and Passat 1993-1997......cos I got the instructions for that in my kit....:(

I have some pics of the kit, shall post them when I get them developed.

Yup it'll be indentical to what ive had installed.

The stalk kit isnt that expensive about £50 and you get the Stalk and loom for it and instructions, its straight from germany in the VW,SEAT,SKODA, AUDI Box most of the parts come in nowadays.

The extra premium is for fitting time, paying someone to do the job, if i was clued up enough and had the kit, then maybe i'd try it.

But i'd probably end up fusing my entire car, melting my ECU and setting my Airbag off :D

But ive got nothing different to what Neils got. Exactly the same i guess.

Mark,

You didn't happen to see where they plugged the 5 wires with spad type connectors to did you?? going by the lemgth of wire, and the fact that the 6th wire plugs into the accerlertor switch unit (I think) it can't be that far, my assumption is the fuse box???

In terms of the airbag, I have intructions to remove that as you can't remove the wheel, and hence change the stalk without doing that:(

I'm looking forward to seeing what gains I get in MPG, but I wish I had a TDi PD 150, just took my mates Bora TDi 115 PD out and it's alot smoother than the std TDi 110:(

Sorry i didnt get that close to the action, though it makes sense, the fuse box is very close on the right side.

I do know they are critical to being in the right places, otherwise one of the functions may not work.

Sorry i couldnt be much more help, but im not that car technical at the best of times :p

Got me intructructions from VW today over a rather dodgy fax copy:(

It looks "not bad", although better intructions would be better..... Gonna go get me self an Audi A3 Haynes Manual tomorrow so I can take the dash apart:D

Shall report back when I'm done, in a few weeks most likely.!!!!!
