View Full Version : Engine Movement

I've noticed that when I'm sat stationary, and I blip the throttle, there is quite a significant movement from the engine, which consequently causes the entire car to 'rock' side-to-side.

I noticed it when I test drove the 170 as well, so it's not just my car.

Is it a 'trait' of the engine, due to it being longitudinal rather than transverse?

Neuspeed do a 'torque damper bushing' for the 1.8T and 2.0T engines, which apparently helps with this, but I can't seem to find an equivalent for the 2.0 TDi.

Any thoughts anyone?

Anyone else experienced the same thing with their Exeo?

Cheers,
Andy

If you firm it up you end up getting more vibration won't you... Audi would prefer a bit of movement for their NVH I bet.

Fair point I suppose Mark, but what do you mean by NVH though ?!?

Ah gotcha ;)

It's more of an annoyance than anything!

It's the same kind of motion you get from a transverse mounted engine, but with that being front/back it's not as noticable than side/side rocking with a longitudinal mounted engine.

This is the first longitudinal motor I've driven, so I guess I'll get used to it over time ;)

They all do it as like you said it because it its longitudinal this time.

If it's the same set up as the B7 A4 then there a hydraulic engine mount that stiffens up over 1,000 or so RPM's.

It's the B8 engine in the Exeo, but I suspect that the mounts etc are the same, which would explain the movement at low revs, whilst being stiffer at higher.

Thanks for the info!
