Anyone here? (Echo)...
It's just that we're thinking about a Sharan/Galaxy/Alhambra for our growing family, and wonder if there are any pointers - what to look out for?
Thanks.
Hi,
Looking for one myself, the information i have found so far...
SEAT looks to be the best bet, for initial oulay of money and for holding its value. You dont find many in the private ads which is a good sign. SEAT dealers have a good selection.
I'm looking at the 1.9 TDI PD SE on either a 52 or 03 plate. You can pay a bit more and go for the 130 bhp TDI
Things to look out for:
TDI more expensive but holds value and better mpg
PD or not PD, search this sit for info on this
Colour is important for resale value
130 bhp TDI is latest version, but of course most expensive
have i missed anything?
Kev
Tdi is better on fuel, Alhambra cheaper than the others with in my opion better trim levels for the money accross the board. You looking to replace or add one, like me I have two Seats.
PD on non PD - Well, the main reason I changed my first bammer to a PD was simply saftey, the new verison, had added saftey over the old shape, engine more BHP 90 - 115pd Tdi (Six speed) & MEGGA immportant to me, the centre lapbelt was changed to a proper three way belt. HUGE cost to pay for my youngest son, but he can now sit in any seat without any risk of injury, when we had only three kids the centre seat wasnt used, but now all the time. - My wife is in Child care, so this also helped in the upgrade.
I had my fist Bammer for a total of six months, was some impressed I ordered the new one at the three month stage! & waited for its delivery, hence its on a Y plate but is 2002 spec!
The new shape Bammer started life with six three ways belts, filled headrestraints, this was soon upgraded, to the current spec, plus I guess a few extra bits....
 Hope this helps././.. TD130 Nice......... But dont underestimate the 115bhp its a good motor.....
I have been told that the cost fo the 130 isnt really worth it, it more of a nice to have.....
I'm not sure how you check its a PD or not as i believe you can have a 110 or 115PD, Does anybody know?

Easy New shape equals PD 115 tdi - Old shape `se` had 110td BHP or 90bhp td lump. Both only had 5 spd boxes. Where as new shape has PD & 6sp...
Cheers Stu, simple when you know how

Thanks - great stuff and useful info.
Any problems out there, whether warranty fixed or not?
For example, is the interior trim up to it? Materials on my LCR aren't perfect (compared to my previous Audis). Any paint or corrosion problems?

Nope considering I have four kids mines doing great. Occasionlly have to deep clean the seats as the colour of the fabric is not what I would have chosen, as a base colour....
Good luck in your choice./

I know I'm a bit late but for what its worth I have a 20VT petrol turbo 150bhp on an S plate with 17" alloys Eibach springs all round and lowered 50mm - had it from new and would not change it for anything. Had a Galaxy before when they were first introduced and it went back after less than a year because of all the problems we had with it (and Ford). Would recommend a Seat to anyone. I even bought a curpa r as a second car but still like driving the bammer just as much.

Thanks. I still haven't bought anything.
I have been looking for a new shape, and have seen Tdi Galaxys and a 2.0 petrol Sharan in my price range. The 2.0 just doesn't have enough power!
I'd like to try at 1.8T as well...
Check the new oxford dealer or venture south to Southampton / Andover way some reasonable dealers in this area should be able to Bammer u up easy.....
I'm also considering a 'bammer - now that my 3rd child is 6 months old, my wife's GTI is way too small and due for replacement. Thanks for the info. Couple of questions:
115PD vs 130PD. Really worth the extra?
SE versus S. Worth the extra?
What about micronet - another post was suggesting buying from them - they seem quite cheap compared to 2nd hand 2 year old and Seat dealers!! Any other reputable sites to buy from? I did the import route on my Leon, but it just doesn't seem worth the effort given the current exchange rate.

If you're feeling really extravagant we've a 2.8 Ghia X Galaxy as well!

Interesting - However, your Seat based web site doesnt show these listings, do you have a direct web site?
