been speakin 2 sum people about induction kits. which 2 use how 2 use em etc.
anyway i've had the pipercross fitted for about 2 weeks, took it off saturday coz i was worried about f@ckin up the air mass sensor.
so today at work went 2 reset basic settings and guess what ?
ur right air mass sensor in f@cked and needs a new 1.
thanx alot mr pipercross:mad:
OK, I'll cross that one off my wish list then.... it looks like I'll get a Blitz soon (Well in a couple of months when i have some cash!).
Ben
do u know how much the blitz 1 costs ?
im might be tempted but im gonna b very careful now cos air mass sensors aint cheap n i cant b goin through em all the time.

Is this MAF failure due to the filter oil?
What is their failure mode? There have been some posts about MAF failure and cleaning curing them.
I would love to know the mechanism of the actual failure. To understand is the 1st step to a cure.

my pipercross was oiled whilst fitted 2 my car so i believe this 2 of caused the fault.
when i replaced the standard airbox i noticed the air mass sensor was sticky inside so i done my best 2 clean it but im not sure the best way 2 do this (i just wiped it clean best i could) any other idea's would be good.
anyway when we were carrying out the readiness codes 2day on 5051 the reading for the airmass sensor (i think this is right but id have 2 check with my foreman) was @ 7 (sumthing) and it should b at no more than 2.5
i dont wanna scare any1 and i've never had a problem with pipercross in the past but im sure the filter oil is the cause of the problem but i will try and look into it more and see what cure's if any i can find
any other idea's please help
thanx

Ummm......HAHAHAHAHA!
I've said about NOT fitting a PiperX filter, or any form of filter that uses oil.......due to buggering the MAF sensor....for the past year...and do people listen...NOOOO!!!
Oh well.....I guess there are peeps out there who learn the hard way!!
This is not having a pop at anyone by the way...i got fed having to defend my words a long time ago about this topic...I was put down everytime i said this could cause problems, and thats why certain tuners don't advise on fitting anything other than the std paper filter.
It had to happen sooner or later i guess....
i had been listenin 2 both sides of the argument regarding foam filters but i thought i'd give pipercross a try seeing as i'd never had a problem with em in the past.
possibly i was wrong this time possibly not. i have spoken 2 other people running this filter and they have had no probs.
could just b the way i fitted it (maybe i used 2 much oil)
im gonna try cleanin the old 1 coz at the mo the car still runnin fine. but i'll c how i go
take care people
ben
I bought a Pipercross years ago (for a Pug 205GTI) but it made no difference at all to the car (perceived or otherwise). Went back to K&N. I had them on 2 Impreza Turbos and a RAM Air on the 3rd and again had no probs, despite the diatribes in Scoobynet. I think you just hafve to be careful with the oiling.

On the other hand, there are people getting bhp gains from the likes of BMC kits on Golfs in the USA...
On the 19th RR day, I should have (hopefully) a Hurricane Filter for people to look at etc...
Oiling is a major issue on any foam/cotton filter though.... to varying degrees.
The MAF is of weak design if this causes problems like described.

Bill, whats your honest recommendation on fitting the Pipercross Induction Kit?
Appreciated,

If its covered in goop (technical term) then I would'nt fit it on my car if it were me. They do seem to load up their filters a "plenty" of oil, which does track into the engine like it or not.
I run ITG foam filter socks on my jetta and have to oil them, but when you look into the induction air horns, you see the oil having traced down into the inlet.... Not a problem for the Jetta as it does'nt have a MAF, running off throttle angle and rpm, but I can imagine this same oil in a Hot Wire or Optical MAF coating it severely.
Like has been suggested by someone else, you could try to wipe off the excess, and reduce the risk of the oil bleeding through as badly. The oil is the dust filtration... not the foam. (sticks the dust particles onto it)
I did see the Blitz today on Pauls 20VT and it "looked" very impressive and sounded very very nice. Stainless steel woven mesh filter - very large.
I have a BMC ready to try, and the Hurricane on the way also hopefully for the 19th. I will not be trying these on the 19th though as I need my engine standard for that days tests.
I will test them using #120 dyno though in due course.
