View Full Version : Swapped the N75 with the N18 - any probs?
Hi all
After reading loads on here and the rest of the web, and help from PRC (top man, cheers geeza) i decided to swap over my N75 boost control valve with my N18 EGC Control Vavle to see if it would solve my stuttering and surging turbo at 1k rpm to 2k rpm and blow me!! it did!
i was sooo happy when i took it out for a run and turbo
spooled up properly and smoothly with out stutter, its never been right since i had the car and the garage could never find to whats wrong, what a bunch of monkeys eh?!!
anyway the question is now i have swapped them over and the turbo spools fine, is it ok to leave it like this? cant feel any negative side effects...
cheers all in advance
Happy Stew
:D

Since it sounds like you're N75 controller is knackered....
It means that you won't be re-circing the correct amount of exhaust gas which shouldn't be a prob until MOT time - even then as long as you put a new air filter in before test it'll fly through.
I would however watch in case we have an exhaust gas sensor (me not sure - same as lambda sensor on petrol?)
If yes it'll show on ECU.
p.s A couple of part numbers for you
FRAM FILTERS - available at most motor factors or you can cross ref from these........
110 TDi Sport Fuel Filter - PS8950 approx £15 - Dealer £29+vat
(Seat only change this at 40k service - VERY IMPORTANT ON DIESEL)
110 TDi Sport Air Filter - CA8995 approx £9 - Dealer £12+vat
(Seat only change every 20k - VERY IMPORTANT ON DIESEL)
yeah i thought that too orange, will have to see when its due to mot, but not until next year though :D as its only 2 years old.

presumably you swapped the piping and wiring over. do these valves work on the basis of open or closed to any given port, OR do they modulate ? any one know?

mine was 2years old two days ago - HAPPY BIRTHDAY ORANGE FLASH!!
yep, did a straight swap, swapping the piping and wiring over. The are simple solanoid valves as far as i know.

Stew, is the N18 valve the black one to the left of the N75?
Orange - cheers for the filter mate. Will be fitting that today.
yes thats right Jon.
Slightly different part numbers, the N75 has an A at the end, the N18 doesnt.
On TDIClub they reckon the N18 is slower, and that my probs will come back anyway.
but for the time being im sooo happy to have a smooth TDI like u and orange have been driving all the time :D lucky gits!

you just need to unleash the demon with the smoky ass.
:D i just knew u were gonna say that as well!
cant get a tdperformance box now :( as just bought my lady a mini and its a £120 project car for the winter, so alot of moneys is going into that whilst saving for the house deposit and wedding in May! :o
is the N18 exclusive to diesels?
i beleive so, its controls the Exhaust Gas Recirculation, to reduce bad emmisions.

the egr valves on peugeot hdi's are better left off they say cos they clog up. mines permanently disconected. they only work anyway at low speed. when you accelerate they close off. i would imagine the're the same on all diesels.

I used to have chipped 306 HDi but it was no where near as quick as my Seat
which will do 0-60 approx 8 secs.
What the fook have you done to yours?

how much power is that putting out to get such a reduction in 0-60 time

it's running a bit rough at the moment, but it was putting out 154 bhp
Good to here it worked out. I guess you won't be needing the pics then??
AFAIK they are solanoid valves so you shouldn't have a problem.

They clog up on TDI's as well, but only in extreme circumstances. Besides the carbon particles mixed with oil from the CCV gets serious gunk in the intake piping and IC (I've cleaned mine out and can say that it's really sh@t).
Mines disconected as well; not permanently, but electronically via VAG COM. I've also done a CCV by-pass which along with keeping the intake and IC clean also gave me some xtra pulling power.
yep im soo glad, its fun to drive the car and i look forward to going out in it again just so i can hear the turbo spool up smoothly.
Thanks paulo for your pics and help, much appreciated.

Got same as Jon tdi - 110 Sport with td performance plug-in module.
His runs 156bhp - not sure about torque.
My pug was unreliable too - thats why i got rid. No looking back now.
Glad I could be of help Stewart.:)
