Not really thinking bout it yet but still wondering if:

Installing a free-flowing exhaust would give the TDIs some more HP?
I think that with less restriction we would probably see a increase in the MPG, but am not sure about HP gains....
Any ideas from the group!!
Then again I haven't really seen any performance exhausts for diesels. Would a perf exhaust for lets say a 1.8T gasoline engine benefit a TDI?

quoting the guys on tdiclub again.....

Yes you can get benefits from performance exhausts, but you'll get just as much be removing a silencer.

They do a "mufflerectomy" on Mk IV golfs ~ cut out the final silencer box and replace with a bit of straight-through pipe. Total cost approximately nothing. ;)

I haven't checked, but I think Leon and Toledo have 3-silencer systems too?

Have heard that the factory exhaust is pretty good as is. Would removing the rear silencer cause to much exhaust noise?
I would want to hear to much of an exhaust note on my daily commute!

I've not heard one personally after a "mod", but by all accounts they are louder, but not by much (two silencers remain). They allow you to hear more of the gruff roar when you're heading towards 4000rpm, with less of the diesel clatter.

Summary ~ same results as a free-er flowing exhaust, without the cost. (Allegedly!)
