New Leon very loosely, will possibly share chassis and engines with the new Leon when it surfaces, scheduled to see something later next year of the new Leon concept.

But rest assured the Altea is a different car to the Leon, its the Mini MPV market they are after with this one.

The new Leon when it arrives will still be a mid sized family car, as the present one is.

First production Alteas should surface early to mid next year.

The one Autoexpress are driving is the Prototype.

SPANISH DEBUT

SEAT unveils the Altea Prototipo

SEAT named its last model after the city of Altea, Alicante, and has now chosen this popular seaside holiday destination for its first public appearance in Spain. The Altea Prototipo will be on display from today until 14 November to more than 150 professionals representing about 80 different domestic and international media publications. - Autoexpress i guess get a look in :)

The daily programmes are scheduled to begin in the Charco grounds off the beach-front walk of this beautiful Mediterranean location. All visitors to the grounds can admire the exclusive Altea Prototipo, which is the prototype for the definitive production model.

With reference to choosing his city to name the Spanish brand's new model, Mr. Miguel Ortiz, Altea's mayor, said that "for all the citizens of our town it is truly a great satisfaction and source of pride that SEAT has chosen the name Altea to market their new model. This strengthens our city's image even more - the quality of our services and constant development".

Besides spearheading a new generation of SEAT products, the Altea Prototipo heralds a new category of vehicles called Multi Sport Vehicle (MSV). Set for its market launch in 2004, the production model will combine sportiness and quality and is forecast to become one of the brand's cornerstones next to the Ibiza and León models.

Located next to the Algar river, the pleasant town of Altea preserves its maritime history. Tourist attractions such as its Old Town and Parish church, and more than six kilometres of beaches make it a popular destination on the Costa Blanca.

Indeed. My dealer principle told me this re: Leon > Salsa - I believe he heard this from head office.

We'll just have to wait and see I suppose. :)

Where does the Tango fit into the picture? Is this supposed to be an Audi TT like coupe?

I think it's quietly been swept under the carpet by VW/Audi

Theres a full page article in todays Sun on the Altea and there is a mention towards the end of the article that VAG will make a decision on the Tango in december, whether or not to put it into production.
Fingers crossed, cos I want one of those babys!!

Well there are some 'real' pics online now, and as we thought not with those nice concept alloys.

Sorry Leo, I've removed your pic as the copyright of that image is owned by AE and not us.

Full article (see link in Stu's Post, below) has a link to all the images, inlcuding the one you posted. Hope you understand.

I should also have mentioned, the pics are of the top-of-the-range Cupra guise with the purposeful front bumper and intakes,as well as a big rear spoiler and 19-inch alloys (VW Phaeton style)

Unfortunately it doesn't get the Alfa-style rear door handle but does have the 2.0 FSI (150bhp) engine with a hot diesel engine for it as well ?

No mention of expected prices yet, too far away i suspect.
