View Full Version : K&N Filters
Hello everyone. Forgive me if this has been raised already but I have just bought Leon 130 TDi (very impressed!). I am looking into mods and thought I might start by changing the filter to a K&N induction kit. Has anyone done this? Is it worth it?
Is it worth it?
Not really. Most people just replace the std filter with a better flowing cotton gauze panel filter.
But beware - the oil used in these filters can play havoc with the MAF sensor.
Green filters seem to be less oily than the K&N items.
Don't get the K&N induction kit (or any other induction kit). You won't get much or anything at all. The OE box is quite good as is, especially on the leon/toledo (the mk4 ibiza has a rather small OE airbox). Upgrading the filter to a gauze type filter will improve spool up times a bit (on turbo). This is also true for a free flow exhaust.

I've put up a link there to the vortex site with a nice DIY mod. I'm planning to do it as soon as I get the MY03 front bumper.
Great, thanks for the advice guys. I have to say that this is a fantastic forum. Loads of info. It looks like I will be heading for a chip mod once I have put a few more miles on my new baby! (only done 600!)
A chip or remap is definately a worth while mod.
Expect "silly grin" mode every time you drive it!
:D
I am sooooo tempted! Just a bit worried about insurance. I have looked at other threads on the forum and it seems to be such a minefield. I would love to feel what 160odd bhp would feel like!
