Hi,

Could someone kindly advise where is the ECU and how to go about removing it from the Toledo.

I'm trying to remove the ECU so that I could get them replaced with Upsolute chip.

Do I need any special tools?

What about voltage surge? Do I have to remove the battery connector first???

Not really a 'Sunday mechanic'. Any advise would be appreciated???? :p

Its in the same place on the leon, so i would guess its the same on the Toledo as they are almost identical cars apart from the boot, you dont need to disconnect the battery when removing it, if you do you also loose the radio code and automatic windows, so best not to i would say!,

I dont disconnect my battery when i remove my ecu!!,

pull off the caps covering the nuts on the wiper arms and undo the nut and remove the wiper arms, open the bonnet and pull off the rubber strip that separates the scuttle panel from the engine bay, unscrew the cover over the pollen filter, remover the scuttle panel (it is pushed into the bottom of the windscreen moulding, you can just pull it out carefully), in the middle of the car you should see a plastic flap over the ecu, this can just be pulled off as it has some sticky stuff on it, you need to replace it afterwards though, unplug the ecu, and pull it out towards the front of the car, i seem to remember there is a clip holding it in on the left and side of the car that you might have to push in, but it should be fairly clear once you see it!, Thats it!, your central locking should still be working so you can lock you car, but your alarm wont be working, but noone is gonna nick it when the ecu is out anyway!!

Hope this helps you!

Thanks Mosser, :D

Need to get the right tool to do the job. Should be working on it next weekend.

Will check back to give an update. Probably I'll try to furnish some pictures as I work thru.

BTW, did you get another spare chip or did you sent in your original and they reflash for you?

I was thinking of getting a spare chip with the new program, just in case it might come handy if I need to replace back the "original" ECU chip.
Don't really know what's the price range??? May need to ask around...

Cheers!

You will need to send your whole ECU away, they take it apart, unsolder your original chip, fit a socket in its place, read out the code from your original chip, make a new chip from your original code + the new upsolute code, then fit the new chip back into your ecu socket and return your ecu ready to plug in and go, and you old chip in a carrier tube so that if you want to swap at any time you can do so yourself!,,

So no need to get another chip as its included in the price !:D

Tried that, but even though I can unscrew the nuts holding the wiper arms in place, the darn things just will not come off. Is there a knack to it?

Mosser is right the ecu is located in the same place as the leon. Personally I'd disconnect the battery though as you don't a possible short (just to be on the safe side).

the wipers are on a splined drive so they tend to get stuck pretty bad. The way I usually do it is: while exerting a bit of downward force at the hinge, with your other arm start moving the wiper up and down (direction of wiping). It will eventually move freely and come off.

Cheers prc, got the trim panel off, but my earth looks sound, so my warning light must be staying on for some other reason
