when i drive my cordy around roundabouts and electronic beep sounds from the dash. The harder i drive round the more beeps. Short islands or mini roundabouts it only beeps once. i have tried going left sharply but it just wont do it!
It only beeps when turning right and if your quite heavy on the steering.
Any ideas? Its only started doing it the lat couple of days!
usual reply....
Have you checked your brake fluid level?
I could get the oil light to flash up in my old Punto under extreme directional change attempts:p
screenwash
brake pads
oil level
all of the above
go on admit it - when did you last check em ?

That screenwash warning is SOOOO annoying!! Especially with the hills & bends around here...
Enough to make you stop the car & re-fill it just to shut it up!! :D
Check your fluid levels, and also look out for any warning lights on the dash?

Theres no lights on the dash to be honest, just a beep. i didnt think my cordy would be advanced enough to have a screen wash beep! I'll check it anyway!
Cheers
had something similar...except it was oil light and buzzer (horrible noise, scared the crap out of me!), 2 days before my polo was being picked up by its new owner!!great!
Took it to my trusted garage and we did pressure checks, change oil pump for good measure and the pressure switch, oil, filter and cleared the strainer...still did it, always only over 5k revs tho, wierd..it turned out it was the dash unit its self, it was actually faulty, and i was told by the mechanic (ex VW dude) that it isnt unheard of for 'dash inserts' to go!
If every other check fails, it may be worth getting a spare from a scrappy to just see if its that!? (around £200 new you see)
only reason i mention it is the cordy shares the same dash as the polo.
hopefully some help...

noticed tonight the oil light does come on! :(
Sounds exactly like you are explaining there with your polo.
not sure whether it is the dash though as its a bit of a coincidence that its started doing it a couple of days after having the head taken off!

A '99 Cordy won't have a screen wash level buzzer, and if you're running the standard brakes theres no pad wear sensors either. The most likely thing is a slightly low oil level - as the sensor is on the RHS of the engine, it only triggers when you turn right.

checked the oil and theres none in it!
Is it reasonable to assumes that having spent £730 on engine work last week that the oil would have been checked?
Or do u think its been burnt off since?
I think a large bollocking is in order for the garage anyway!
Nah, you'd need to spend £750 to get oil as well
:hammer:

There's no oil in the sump or just not enough to show a level on the dipstick? Either way, get some oil in there pronto (and preferably get someone to give you a lift to wherever you get it from ;) ). Burning off a sump-full of oil in a week would be excessive - i'd hope you'd have noticed the James Bond stylee smoke screen that would have been following you round everywhere you drove too!

no oil is a very poor show by the garage who undertook the work.
what "engine work" did u have done? Trying to work out whether it would facilitate oil removal.

no there has been no smoke at all! which is strange!
It bent a couple of valves due to the cat disintergrating and blocking up the exhaust. The head has been off and rebuilt, new cat etc. obviously you wouldnt need an oil change but surely they would know to check the oil is ok before firing it up!
i've gave them a bollocking! Good job i had 5 litres of oil in stock for a service on my brothers golf! I assume they use they same type! ;)

If valves got bent and subsequently replaced, did the valve guides get checked at the same time?
If no smoke - chances are they forgot to top up the oil after reassembly. This is very bad form. Never give them any work ever again and make sure you tell all your friends/family etc. that they're a bunch of clueless muppets too...

Yes i am thinking they have completely forgot!

my bill doesnt charge for oil or filter though
