View Full Version : Power Loss

I have a 51 Ibiza Cupra and it is losing power in all gears, most noticeably in higher gears and usually at around 5000 revs although it has started happening at lower revs. Also the engine management light has flicked briefly when this is happening. It feels as though the the rev limiter has kicked although the revs will continue to rise but very slowly. I think my fuel economy has got alot worse also.
Any ideas
Thanks

Allright boyo! Welcome to the forums and another Taffy (About 10 on here now)
Im from Pontypridd so close to you! what colour yer cupra?? May have seen ya!
As for your problems could be a few things, possibly the DV as its a common fault to leak boost.
If ya want I have the Vag-Com software to check the ECU for fault codes and monitor boost levels etc etc so if ya want me to plug it in and see gimmie a bell!
Only takes two mins. gimmie a bell, E-mail me on mike.heath1@ntlworld.com and ill give ya my number if you want to arrange to meet!
Also we have monthly meets and catch up on mods etc, you should call round, usually first friday every month i cardiff.

Hello,
My Ibiza is silver but I only picked it up yesturday from Essex bloody 10 hour return journey, and then get home and problem appears, ahhh. That would be great if you could check my DV, it is going into Rycar on Tuesday for a service, but they said they cannot change any parts as they are no longer going to be a Seat franchise from the end of the month.
Thanks

Nah, you'd know if it was coil packs. Driving on 3 cylinders is a bit of a givaway!
I recon it's been chipped or tinkered with and going into limp mode.
Possibly a reset need + a throttle adaption.
Might be DV. Might be old induction pipe been put back in after previous owner has induction kit in.

i agree, BUT your not 100% correct..let me explain why i wrote that...
when i had my 3, yes 3 all go at once, they were totally intermittant, so when in revo mode, if one of the dodgy 3 packs gave a slight mis-fire, it would throw limp mode, BUT if it was in std mode, it would just back of the power when it missed, then boost back up and away you go again! it might have been 0.5miles later untill one missed again, or it might have been 100miles later, but thats how mine behaved, none actually completely failed-so i wasnt ever actully 'driving' on anything other than 4cyls:)

Hmmmm....not sure I understand. Why would limp mode not be executed in std mode?
Dor.
I dont know, what i am telling you is how it happened, not why, im not yet upto scratch with these engines.
Revo Mode : Miss-fires Briefly, Throws Limp Mode, only way to get out is to clear all fault codes with VAG-COM (which i dont have) OR disconnect Battery for 10mins (which doesnt actually clear the codes)
Std Mode: Miss-fires Briefly, Backs of boost to literally nothing, boosts back up, all in a split second, but still records fault..
like i said, dont know why, im not a wiz with these turbo engines, but im learnin;)
And im deffo not mistaken, thats exactly what happened, quite a few times, and the faults that were recorded were:
Intermittant Misfire-Random
Intermittant Misfire-cyl2
or somethin along those lines..

Car is going into Thomson and Thomson Friday for work. They said they would replace all "H" coil packs.
The car is not misfiring at the mo but it has gone into limp mode. Car is going to stay unused now til it goes to the garage.
