Just trying to find out if anyone else has had problems with the ABS/Traction Control Systems on their Ibiza Cupra 20Vt (or Leon i suppose)
story is- got the ABS and Traction lights on my dash, fault codes read something along the lines of
"hydrulic pump channel 4 pressure too h"igh
now i took it to the dealer who had done work on the abs on this car before for the old owner (SMC windsor) Now they have replaced the ABS pump, didnt fix it, and are now trying to get hold of the ABS pump control box (the electrical part) and try that. NOw i was speaking to the old owner of the car on MSN earlier, and he said that SMC have already tryed those parts before, also they tryed changing the relays and that actually worked. Now why would they be trying it again!? surely they have a record of whats been changed?
SO, this was almost 3weeks ago when i took the car in, i have hardly heard a word from them, unless i phone and chase them for a update.
Just tyring to find out if anyone has had any similar problems with the abs/traction systems, and if they managed to get it sorted, if so, what did you do? Also, if anyone who has knowledge of the system/abs system in General can offer any suggestions?
Thanks
Mark (starting to get a bit pissed off:mad: )

This is just a punt, but wiring earths can cause all sorts of funnies. On a Golf Rallye a friend had, he had all sorts of ABS related problems, the upshot of which it did'nt work. Dealers etc looked at it diagnosed new pump, controller etyc eg throw parts at it to fix it! He did'nt do that as he had no warranty and would have had to find the dosh $$$.

The find was actually an intermittent wire break on the earth in the loom to the pump. Soldered together and all was fixed. Took some finding tho.

Earths to check and interfaces of wiring and bulkheads is something where wiring can sometimes get trapped etc....

Good luck

HI Bill, thanks for the reply.
Seat's next step is to take out the wiring and check all the resistances and voltages in the loom, if that doesnt provide an insight, the car will be sent to dover of all places to be looked at at their HQ, and it will be away for weeks again if that is the case, so hopefully, fingers crossed its a wiring problem they find...
Thanks for that info, its almost confirmed my idea, and Seat's next idea it could be the wiring
Will keep upto date on the sutuation here
Thanks again

is the abs pump running?, can you hear an air type pump in the engine bay?, or if u put your hand on the abs pump can you feel any vibration?

Im not sure...but what i know from the dealer is:
they changed the Pump
Changed the Control unit x2
now they are diving deeper into it, checking the wiring...
They did pressure checks on the system, and said the pressures were not too high, eventhough the control unit is saying they are, it must be a wiring fault...surely?

ok i've had a problem with my abs the pump appeared to be running all the time!!!! yes strange. (abs light was on) so rang the dealer to get the car booked in and was told it would be over a month till they could see it gr8!!! so i had a look my self.

seemed to be a relay sticking so had a look at them a small black one under the dash pulled it out gave it a good bash put it back in and all well to this day.
anyway its worth a go just to rule it out.

I had something similar on old Rover GTI. The pump would run for ages on start up and whenever the ABS was triggered. Took it to a Rover dealer who put it a VAG.COM type thing for Rovers and they told me I needed a new pump and control unit - £1250 please. Took it to a Rover independent who cleaned the sensors and changed the fluid and it was fine.

They reckoned brake fluid isn't changed anywhere near as often as it should be and is usually the reason brakes go a bit spongy after a while.
