Well, well, well...

The anti-theft test on the Leon is crapt...

Thef needs 47 secondes to get into the car...

If you want to know more, get the latest "What Car?" September issue...

Is the *hot* Leon Cupra going to be THE car to stole?

Taking the Cupra badge off might be a good idea after all. If I choose to get the Leon Cupra, I will swap my badge to a 1.4S one, get a normal met paint and change the gear knob to a 5 speeds' one. Well, everything to make the thef believe that I have a crappy version ^_^ Heheh..

Any car is able to be broken into, a lot easier and faster than these What Car tests and other magazines.

They are usually undertaken in controlled conditions using some of the best locksmith. ex car thieves.

The best advice is not to leave anything on show in the car, not even tapes or cds, cause most muppet thiefs are opportunists and will smash the window or wreck the door just to steal such shitty items.

The next best thing is get an Alarm system fitted that screams the house down, nothing more likely to shit a potential thief up than 100 plus decibles of siren from a sophisticated system like a Clifford or Toad system.

I myself have a G4 Clifford Concept 300, with Dual Proximity system, so it will chirp a warning at people who loiter round the car too long, if they persist , it will fully sound.

At the end of the day no car is safe, you just have to do everything you can to make your car too much hassle for the thief to be bothered.

These tests mean nothing, what most of them also leave out is the fact they can get in them quick but can they start them?? Thats the crunch if you cant start it you cant nick it.

The new SEAT's have a fair immobiliser system, and the Clifford i've had installed has added an extra 3 immobilisation points to it too.

Who cares how long it takes to get in a car when its surrounded by glass !

The point is the Leon passed the drive away test with flying colours !!!!!

Is the *hot* Leon cupra going to be the car to steal, no I don't think so !

EXACTLY , they may get in it in 47 seconds BUT will they get away in it ????

plus the fact ANY car is accessible via it's glass so as for an entry test only , i dont reckon thats too bad as most SCUM are amateurs and will only even attempt a break in if A: they SEE summat worth having OR B: they know a REAL easy way to get in ,they'll soon avoid em when they realise they can't get away in em http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/biggrin.gif

Why are you guys getting upset about it? The Leon has failed the entry test and that's it. Not every car did (laminated double glazing' one). GET OVER IT! :-)

Did I actcually mention the drive away test? NO. ¬_¬;;

Off to drive test the Octavia Estate this afternoon (35s entry test btw).

How about a GPS alarm system?

I'm considering to buy one for my new Ibiza Cupra (as it arrives). It costs ~500GBP and monthly ~25GBP for the monitoring. As your car is stolen, the monitoring service alerts the police and keeps them updated on your cars position until they find it.

There was a real test of such a device on a local TV channel. The police got the car in seven minutes (with the TV staff in it http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/wink.gif cruising on a motorway as they triggered the alarm in the car.

Expensive but effective.

I like the immobiliser system by phone better. No need to bother phoning the police, you just use your cell phone to stop the car. How cooler can it get?!

Yes, that is also cool (and cheaper), but this GPS alarm system has that feature, too. Also; you don't have to call anybody, the monitoring service does it instead of you (that's why you pay them regularly). Car is usually stopped (blocked by GPS) when the police spot the car.

This has a big advantage over the phone alarm that you actually KNOW where your car has been taken.

Mark,
would be grateful if you could give me a few more details about your alarm system (Clifford Concept 300)- who installed it for you & how much did it cost ?
Unfortunately just discovered that my 20vt hasn't come with fitted alarm - imported from Holland although should have been full uk spec !!
Now need to urgently install before it's broken into & unable to claim -
much appreciated,
Kevin

Don't pay to have one fitted yourself - get your import broker (or dealer on the continent) to agree to pay for one - they are contractually obliged to do so if you have ordered a full UK Spec car.

Who was the broker / agent who screwed up?

My own Clifford was fitted by SQ Plus in Manchester. www.sqplus.com (http://www.sqplus.com)

Its a Thatcham Cat 1 approved Alarm System.

There are several models availble in varying prices, they aint the cheapest alarm systems, but arguably the best.

I've got a Dual Zone sensor added to my basic system, which protects the interior using Radar, you can leave your windows open, cause there are no Ultrasonics or Air movement sensors.

Its Dual zone cause it also covers the exterior of the car, if someone lingers or stands close to the car, it will warn them off with some shrill sounding chirps, if they persist after 3-4 consecutive chirps it will fully sound.

It also utilises a false alarm diagnostic system, if it goes off it will evaluate its situation to make sure its not a false alarm, if it isnt it will continue to wail.

If there is no further attempt to break in or its discovered it to be a false, it wil reset iteself automatically after 30 secs or so.

There are so many functions it would take ages to explain them all.

A friend has a full Clifford 600 system, very expensive at nearly £800, but he has the BlackJax system on it, with this he could give me the keys and clifford fob, and i could drive off in it, but a couple of hundred yards down the road the car will safely cut itself out and sound the alarm.

It requires a code to override. http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/smile.gif

Though that is the extreme the alarms are very modular, so you can start with a Concept 300 system and build it up as and when you can afford to.

Options include:

Total Window/Electric Sunroof Closure
Motion Tilt Sensor (Anti Jacking)
Glass Breaking Sensor, (listens for the glass breakin, or being banged)
Headlight on delay relay
BlackJax (Anti-Car Jacking module)

Plus many others.

You'll find info on the various systems, and also a dealer locator for your area on the website.

Sorry forgot the price of the Concept 300 http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/tongue.gif

As i said fitted by SQ Plus in Manchester, and the standard 300 is £400

I added the Dual Zone sensor to this for £75.

Total £475 fitted.

As long as you own the car its covered for failed parts, including fobs and all sensors, any problems any Approved Clifford dealer is contracted to help you at no charge.

I didn't read the entire thread (it's big!). If I mention things already stated by You guys, please don't harm me to much!

Difficult point! Say that they are able of unlocking the car in 15 secs and bypass the immobiliser and alarm in 30 secs?

But I must admit only pro's are able of doing that stuff. They must know how to unlock that immobiliser and alarm systems (stock on Dutch Cupra4) and how to do that fast! That would result in some grand theft auto project on your car. Seen 'Gone in 60 secs', those Benz's if I remember right?

A more simple thief will use a brick if something valuable is left visible (might be done even faster than 2 secs http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/biggrin.gif ). And furthermore, won't be able of bypassing the immobiliser within a range of 15 minutes to never in their lives! Flapper and ZBOYD are right on this!

Thanks for the info/advice guys,
will book car in for fitting of concept 300 just as soon as Clifford get back to me.
Import agent was Grey UK - unfortunately no longer with us ! - 8 month wait, no alarm or cd changer and radio not working due to somebody drilling through speaker wires !! Apart from that great - whatever happened to quality control ? Too many middle men involved maybe and I didn't badger them enough while waiting.
Ah well - 'you pays your money...'
