View Full Version : Mot
Just had the MOT done on the car yesterday at a local garage (non franchised).
They actually failed the car on the side repeaters, because they where not amber.
When I checked inside the repeater it was a clear bulb, so the guy just painted it amber and then passed the test. I have not changed these bulbs.
Has anyone had this and are the bulbs in the repeaters meant to be amber or clear. The actual repeater is white
I have got some blue side repeters which I might now fit to see what colour the light flashs then.

Even though the repeater is white/clear the w5w wedge bulb that it uses should be amber in color. The amber w5w bulbs are sometimes hard to find, so someone probably just swapped a blown one for a clear one.
Mine was a close fail at MOT earlier this year, replaced at service a couple of months later. I was going to paint them but it was more cost effective just to replace them!
my original side repeaters were smoked grey lenses with orange bulbs...they looked painted..
i changed them for clear flashing orange LED ones (like ones on golfs and boras) made by in.pro.
well happy with them.
you can buy paint to cover clear bulbs to make them orange, by Humbrol model paints.
Jase said humbrol to me too, turned out the bulbs were pittance.
dunno about you guys, but it would be cheaper here to replace the bulbs than picking up the paint.
I've heard (but can't confirm) that bulbs actually blow quicker when you paint it because of added heat (or less heat dissipating).
It was cheaper for me or as near as goddamit no difference.
