View Full Version : a/c doing what it wants :(
today my a/c had a spack . could turn it on but not off . only way i can turn it off is by selecting a diffrent blowing area and then it goes into auto ? so then i have to turn that off by turning the fan down . but if i select the screen to be blown on , the a/c comes back on without pressing a/c .
any ideas ?
Was it very cold? ie the weather temperature outside.
On the Leon it is disabled when temps drop below about 2-3 degrees AFAIK. Should go back to normal and work once temps are normal, think its to stop the system freezing and causing blockages.
was just above those temps . i looked as i thought the same . but it goes on but not off !

happens to me when the frost sign is on! sometimes it wont go on sometimes it wont go off! random but aleways when its cold
Yer it did it in the old Leon sometimes too, the Air Con snowflake stayed on and you couldn't turn it off, other times it was off and wouldnt come on.
The R did it this morning, Air COn was disabled
Always when it was really cold. It should clear once the temperatures normalise a little, if not get it to a dealer.

You didn't have the screen demist turned on did you? If you did IIRC you can't have demist on without AC being enabled so it wont turn off until you turn demist off.
(Sorry it's late/early I've only had 1 hour sleep and have been called into work)
After re-reading the first post that's exactly what's supposed to happen. Turning on Windscreen Demist turns on AC. The AC demists the window more effectively than just the standard blower.
Cheers
Andy
If screen demist is on, and you press the snowflake button, it goes out, but the arrows which indicate that screen demist is on stays on!!
i agree with Gill, my climate control sometimes has a mind of its own, turning stuff on and off when it wants, even when ive turned it off of auto and have it on feet or feet and face settings. Some days its just funny (not often) but most days its ok.
Its like its saying i want to do this, and you saying no i know whats best! (the machines starting to take over? aka The Matrix?) ;)
mine turns the AC on when I point it at the windscreen
(as the AC helps to dehumidify the air and helps demisting)
makes sence really!
it makes sense but i was asking why you can't turn it off ?

The Aircon is controlled by a processor which was originally destined for the cabins of the A320 Airbus...after the Paris Airshow disaster they processors were hurriedly sold on the black market where SEAT snapped them as a cheap controller for the aircon.....
..never drive 3000 meters above sea level or you lose direct control of your throttle too and your airbag pops out as a liferaft..:( :D
My 2002 Ibiza Cupra does exactly the same as yours Gillm.Random.Sometimes I can turn mine off by selecting rotary switch to face vents(still with blower on),turning engine off, then selectig rotary switch to screen and turning engine back on.
load of poo to put it bluntly then .or a mind of it's own
Why do you particularly want to turn the A/C (snowflake symbol?) off when demisting the screen (or have I misunderstood the original question)?

The A/C in the Ibiza will not come on below 5 degs C as stated in manual except for certain operations. Very frustrating, but all noted in the manual :p
