Yup, about a week ago me Cupra started to smell like old socks or strong cheese inside. Flippin' horrible. No idea why, had a good hunt round and clean and couldn't find anything vaguely podiatric ;)

Any ideas anyone? Don't think it's coming from the aircon but might try some of that Aircol stuff...

It's probably bacteria in your aircon system. Blast it with some real hot air and hopefully it should go. Alternatively, you might have taken out an animal and it could be decaying under your wheel arch or in the engine bay.

Hi

Is the smell coming out of the vents or does it seem abit more ambient?

If its ambient, and if you've got mats, take them out check your carpets (footwells and boot tailgate) for dampness by giving them a really good squeeze whilst holding a piece of tissue.

As mentioned, if its coming out of the vents check the engine bay and arches for wildlife, and if all else fails buy a can of Aircol (the hot blast thing does work, but only temporarily IMO).

Cheers

Ray

You say it smells like curry.Ethyl Glycol (antifreeze) smells like curry when hot, check coolant level to see if its loosing any.If it is, the likely place it comes from could be the heater matrix or pipes connecting to it under the dash.Check carpet for dampness around that area.Have you topped up coolant level recently.

Not so much curry as cheese - my favourite theory is some dampness on the carpets under the mats, going to check it out tonight.

Well whatever it was, damp, cheese, socks or korma, has gone now so the mystery remains unsolved!

I had the same problem with my car but in my case it happened only after i washed it because the inside covers were not completly dry after washing them under pressure and in combination with the lack of air inside the "cockpit" the strange smell appeared
