i have a r32 tb fitted along with a apr inlet manifold but it works quite bad on my 1.8t revs dropping out etc:(was thinking about sticking the standard one back on but yours could be a good compromise:think:could you make an adaptor plate to allow me to go from r32 size holes to 70mm ones?

Sure can!
email me and I will take care of it for you.

No need now. I had to do a big order with Bosch to get the correct VAG TPS's so now it is a direct plug and play.I also have a couple extension harnesses for those of you who do not want to cut loom.

Very nice Danny, looking forward to your opinion and results of this. WMI tapping is a wise consideration.
Did you consider milling the mouth of the manifold to 70mm to allow a complete unstepped flow of 70mm from the TB into the mani. Shiny adapter on black powder coating looks very smart.

We thought about make plates that offered a template for 70mm milling but didnt think they would be too lucrative. This way works best for people just looking for bolt on and go.
Danny looking forward to that back to back dyno mate.
Cheers
how do these improve performance?
Ditto above ^^^
Whats the ID of the OEM unit?

60mm , however you have increased the throttle body surface area by 36% going to a 70mm.
Performance increase varies and it is dependent on your modifications. On any 1.8T with a K04-001 or K04-022/023 or LARGER turbo (GT28,etc) we are seeing as little as 7whp gain. I think by now based on the number of kits we have sold , the feed back we have received and the tests we have done that this is a pretty good upgrade for any non-stock 1.8T engine.
Thoughts on use with a .64 3071?
Would this also bolt to a SEM mani if upgraded OE inlet to it?

You will see a decent gain on a 3071R. If you dont like the kit I will offer you a full 100% refund no questions asked.
If the SEM manifold has an 80 x 80 bolt pattern then we have adapter plates to step down from the 80mm opening to 70mm opening found on the throttle body.
If you were looking to purchase an SEM manifold i would not get the OE 60 x 60 foot print as that limits you to whatever throttle body you can use AND when it comes time for resale you cant do much with it. With the 80 x 80 foot print you can get adapter plates from us for whatever throttle body you want...even OE.
Do you sell the adaptor plates on their own?
Also, what is the ID of the opening on the inlet manifold? The adaptor plates look to be angled?
Hi Phil,
yes we do. Adapters are $88 USD and require either:
Mercedes-Benz C320 throttle body
Porsche Boxter 2.7 throttle body
Audi B5 S4 2.7TT throttle body. All of those throttle bodies have a 65mm bolt spacing w/ 70mm throttle plate.
The ID of the plate is 60mm so yes it tapers from 70mm to 60mm.
If the mouth of the inlet is 60mm how would a 70mm tb give any gains as it has to taper down to 60mm anyway?
Or am i missing something?
am i missing something?
You are assuming your throttle body is at wide open at all times . Unlike a Cable throttle body , a DBW throttle body opening is directly proportional to engine rpm.
Surface area of the 70mm unit is larger than the 60mm unit.
Not sure why people in the VW scene are still skeptical about this upgrade...
for the record INA supplies throttle body upgrades to half the Porsche , Mercedes-Benz & BMW shops in North America.

Mines booming at the moment...really glad I fitted it...
Had made a huge difference to the way it picks up on intial boost nice and quick and keeps the needle there but seems my torque had moved up sooner...feels really really nice
awesome work sam:-D
Not so much skeptical, just interested in how much gains are to be had.
Sure this would make more of a difference on a SEM or alike.
078 133 062 the correct throttle body? It is 70mm ID btw.

I always thought the throttle bodie was restrictive not the actual inlet...

Thats off a B5 S4 or C5 A6 so yes that is correct.

Thanks, will be in touch about a plate.
Have a look at my wmi thread Phil
So is this a direct replacement for the OEM TB? And the wiring does anything have to be done little skeptical of splicing into looms :)
So the OEM wiring will work with this?

Clive,
that has the wrong TPS on it. You will have to get a VW/Audi TPS from an S4 or similar to work.

thanks sam glad i didnt buy that then lol but they was only £50 deliverd !!!
going to get the car mapped and then see if where we go from there with regards to larger throttle body and poss SEM
was going to order the sump but the problem is the one on the car has been machined with ofset holes to fit to the 10mm scrapper plate so your sump wont fit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! bugger
if i could get you the hole template would you be able to make me one to fit ???

main bearing girdle :-)
Why wouldnt my sump fit? The rear portion of the our pan is clearanced for arp main studs. The first versions were not (10 from 2009?)
Guys I found a 70mm cable throttle body to fit a standard 1.8T plenum
Ideal if you have aftermarket managment I guess that doesnt use DBW
Quite pricy though but its the only 70mm ive ever seen that is a true bolt on with no spacers required

No different than what we can get through Summit Racing or similar.
60 x 60 bolt spacing w/70mm opening.
Only problem is that it is for standalone :(
