View Full Version : Upsolute serial tuning
Has anyone on here had their Leon 20VT chipped by Upsolute with their new serial port upgrade? If so is there any feedback on how good it is?
Thanks.
Hi
I drive the same car and I had an Upsolute chip , gave me about 35hp and 70Nm torque and I reccomend it . You can really feel the improvement , much more torque in all gears, not to mention a plus in top speed ;)
So definetely thumbs up:)
Where i had it done there also was a full 2 week warranty attached so in case a wasn't satisfied with the new performance they would give all my money back
Hi Passat,
Did you have the chip replaced or did you go down the serial route? Do you mind asking where you had it done and how much it was? I think from memory I have been quoted £380 for serial and £305 for a chip replacement.
Did you have any issues after it had been done?
Thanks in advance.

Thats twice, from 2 different companies, that I have seen now where SPP is more expensive than chip fitting (which is labour intensive to desolder, resolder etc)
Whys this? Does'nt make much sense... other than their costs to buy it in from Dimsport are higher for SPP versions.
I had my chip replaced , the cost was 400 euros and i did't experience any problem with it , so money well spent

Upsolute may be charging more for the SPT over the chip as the software to upload the maps was purchased from another tuning co......they didnt develop their own version

They'd best not be using SPT as a tradename. www.shitpipe.tk is the original SPT & I wouldn't like my product devalued.
www.dimsport.com have software for loads of cars in their DB
Still not sure why they don't reduce their 'cost' as they don't have to buy / ship / program / solder / fit any Eeproms to the ECU, that's got to cost getting on for £75

My guess is SPT is more expensive as they know more people will go this route as its doesnt involve replacing the chip and its virtually invisible.
They know they have got you over a barrel !

Bill,
words is the same place as superchips got theirs and thats why the increase in price
BF
Perhaps the Upsolute rep can post up here and confirm what we are talking about and explain why it's cheaper to have a more labour intensive task carried out?
It sounds like there are actually two pieces of code then, one for the chip change from Upsolute and another from Dimsport for the SPT? (Not Shit Pipe!!)
I can't see anything on Upsolutes site about Serially tuned cars.
I wonder if I have legal claim over SPT? if so - can I claim a royalty?

maybe that upsolute are only using the port tuning method on cars that the ecu is located in more difficult areas and also the cars that have the lock bolts through the ecu....therefore it could prolly be more dosh

Speculation !!!
Bill - I'm not using the Dimsport serial download software/hardware.
I'm using another third party software which cost quite a few ???'s to purchase. This though is not the reason for the increased cost, I'm not looking to reclaim my costs on the kit, but I also have to purchase individual 'keys', this are assigned to the VIN of the vehicle and so obviously cannot be used on any other vehicle but the one to which it was first used. Thie is basically how the third party ensure that they get their slice of the pie, and yes, the cost per customer key is £75 give or take a bit as the exchange rate fluctuates.
m0rk - I've never called it SPT, I wouldn't want a bitter high court battle making all the wrong headlines now would I :D
If you want my personal opinion, I prefer doing the chip change, probably cos I'm used to it and find it a bit more 'hands on'.
To be honest it doesn't take a great deal more time to do the chip change way than it does to do it the serial way also !
As BF said, there are some cars now (A4's for instance) that have a nice (NOT) welded plate around the ECU which prevents it being removed without first removing the plate in a permenant way.

Upsolute original code was Dimsport tool written tho was'nt it?
Dimsport also have released their SPP version on diesels and some petrols as I understand...
Not a huge leap to guess.
Dimsport write the ecu software tools not the performance software for the specific car... for those reading this.
Code key vs library file to purchase and IC cost.... Like you say they're getting their cut. :)
seems alot of these tuning companies are Italian...
Seen something about Millenium SPP - is that what Upsolute use ?
