My car has just started to play up.
Yesterday on the way to the Muse gig in Manchester, the windows started to go up and down of their own accord, and the doors started to lock and unlock repeatedly.
I wasnt thrilled at leaving the car for the duration of the gig, but when I returned, it was still there and thw windows were shut.
We were accompanied all the way home by the clicking of the musical doors.
Taking it in to the dealers tomorrow to be checked out, so fingers crossed.
Has anyone else had this problem?

Yes,

By any chance have you recently washed the car or has it rained heavily? Does you rear wash wipe have the usual amount of screenwah pressure on the jet?

This has happened to both my Arosa and Ibiza, water makes contact with a microswitch and it sents the locking mad (keeps locking/unlocking) and due to the fact windows can be rolled up/down by the locking mechanism as you will sure know, they also develop a mind of their own.

Sometimes the alarm is alson effected and it will randomly go off - or you won't be able to shut it up.

I am CERTAIN this is what you are experiencing.

HTH, Ian

Yes, it has been very wet. I wondered if this was the cause.

I had this problem also on my Mk3 Cupra. took the dealers some time to figure out what it was. In the end they told me that they replaced some sort of elecctric window module. It never happened after that though!

My car is down at the dealers now. Since I rang them on Monday they have had 2 other mk 4s in with the same problem.
As stated above its a module in the door which has got wet.
Its being sorted as I speak.

Let us know which module it is and I'll get mine checked out! Ian

Update on the faulty electrics.
Apparently, in the flexible rubber hose type arrangement between the car and the drivers front door ,(which carries the wiring to the door),there is a connector.
This is prone to getting damp. Over a period of time corrosion sets in and central locking and windows start to play up.
The solution in my case was for the garage to unplug the connector, replace a corroded wire, smother everything in vaseline, and then cover it in what they described as a shroud.
Apparently Milton Keynes were aware of the problem, which is an issue with type 4 Ibizas. AS I said earlier, mine was the 3rd Ibiza type 4 with this problem this week, and Fishers is a very small dealership.
Its certainly something to keep an eye on.

But this could happen on MK3 Ibiza's too? If so I'll check mine out before it gets v.wet and v.cold (and v.salty on the roads:(!) :)

Thanks Nick I'll get it checked out.

Yup, seems it can occur on pretty much any recent SEAT and presumably any recent VAG car..

I wish my Ibiza would play up in humourous ways like this!

I mean, the damn thing seems determined to refuse to work 100%, but why can't it do something interesting like this? :D

Trust me it ain't fun, having the windows down all night with the p!ssing rain flooding inside is not fun. The 2 hour engine on demist process the following morning is rather annoying

I've been very impressed by my early dealings with them.
I also know several others who would say the same.

The windows did their random descent trick again today, so it's back to the dealers. I cant have them deciding to open on theirown when my car is in some random car park in the west riding.
I'll let you know how I go on after I've been back.

Been back. Everything seems to be back to normal again. I hope this will be permanent. They traced the wires back a little further and replaced another section.
Fingers crossed.

 Now its getting silly!!!
Car back at dealers for the rest of the week.
Knock on the door at 9 on Saturday evening,to tell me that my car windows were down, interior light was on and the car was locking and unlocking.
Hopefully Fishers will get to the bottom of this by Friday.
I've been lent a base model Arosa.Apart from the weedy engine, I'm quite impressed. I think the quality of the interior plastics is streets ahead of the Ibiza.

Sorry to hear this is still going on - this is **exactly** what I experienced with my Ibiza.

As for the Arosa, agreed. The 1.0 is a weedy lump and the gearbox is totally useless (my ex has one), but the car itself is made much better than the Ibiza (which is utterly cr@p compared to every othewr SEAT model). My old Arosa 1.4 16v Sport had a lovelly interior, had fewer rattlers and no cheapo plastic like in my Ibiza. I love that car.. can't wait for my mom to put me on the insurance next year :D :D

Go Karting time!

How did they sort your Ibiza in the end?
Agreed about the Arosa gearbox. I find pulling away in first gear a slow, but unnerving experience.

They didn't.. I just left all my heaters on max for about and hour and a half and since then it's been fine (must have dried the switch out). The Arosa had to have a new microswitych in the boot.

I would GET THEM (forcably maybe!) to check every single microswich for every lock - I stand by my original assesment of the issue: I bet one has water in it or is corroded.

Re gearbox: Yeah it's loose and lacks precision, the 1.4 sports box is different.. thank god!

I've just rung Fishers.
They've replaced the ECU which controls the comfort pack, (windows, locking, alarm etc). This was done on the advice of Milton Keynes.
They did this yesterday, and they have kept an eye on the car since. It has, apparently behaved itself.
I pick it up tomorrow lunchtime, so I suppose time will tell.
I think it will take a while for me to trust it again.
This also seems a bit like a last throw of the dice.
I must say though, that they have been extremely helpful through all of this. It must piss them off as well.
