View Full Version : Got my car back from LPG conversion
Well, i picked my car up at 6:30 tonight from the LPG conversion place, and all of the LPG kit has been taken off,
But now there is still a power loss, I have lost 1.5psi of boost, and the car is down on power by about 10%,
The car has had the CEL on about 40 times since the conversion, been in limp mode about 15 times, and been misfiring as well, it runs fine now it has all been taken off (apart from the power loss), but would all of these errors have been stored in the ECU and be causing this loss?
What does anyone think?
the conversion has screwed with yer ECU, take it to a dealer for some TLC
Sounds like an ECU reset to try first.
Dont know if disconnecting the battery for a while does this ?
Jonathan
I have left my battery disconnected overnight before and it doesnt seem to make any difference!, i will pop into my local dealer and see if they can do it, if not i will pop over to amethyst's on sat morning !
The saga continues.......what a nightmare! :(
I thought you reset the ECU by opening drivers door, switching on ignition, and leaving for 5 mins (?)
Can anyone confirm? Maybe this is just the TDI?
Did you leave the Bleed Valve on? Couldn't you use this to increase your boost?

Correct me if I'm wrong but if you disconnect the bleed valve then your turbo should work overtime and give you more power, but on the other hand this can be bad as there is no control over the turbo ???? Oh I dont know !
I heard that Ford've admitted only one of their vehicles can run properly on LPG (Galaxy I think - V6 maybe?). The others don't have cylinder heads that are hard enough - they end up shagged 'cos LPG runs hotter than petrol and doesn't lubricate as much.
Wonder how many other manufacturers will now admit the same?:(
Bleed valve was left on, and was set for a 6psi overboost, this might be why it is in limp mode at the moment, i removed the bleed valve completely and it is running a maximum boost of 5psi now!!!:( , I have got it booked in at Amethyst tomorrow at 2pm, so hopefully they will be able to sort it all out for me,
You cant run the car with the bleed valve disconnected, because it will boost sky high, the i would get a CEL, and it would be in limp mode again!,
You are right about fords and LPG Toonman!, but it is the V6 Scorpio that converts ok, the others as you said have hard enough valve seats, although you can fit an oil drip feed system to LPG conversions like i had to stop that, but without water mist injection for cylinder cooling you cant do anything about the increased temperatures!, Renault and peugeot's dont convert too well either, altough strangely, citroens are quite successfull candidates!!

Mosser,
The problem you now have is that when you plug in 1551 on saturday there will be lots of faults stored that don't exist! When playing round with your car the lpg people have more than likely logged loads of spirius faults which will all still be held in your fault memory.
Is it at all noisy? The lack a boost could be a leak somewhere (a split hose etc) i say this because of the 21 psi boost they were running. That kind of pressure might be over the tolerences of the intercooler!
If you want we can monitor you ecu as we drive on sat as im bringing a 1552? This could also get rid of the faults that aren't applicable to the car as it stands now.
hope this helps.
ps ive Eemailed you about sat
Its as quiet as a mouse Steve!!, no tapping or leaking air that i can hear at all, i know almost every noise that my car makes and cant hear anything out of the ordinary,
If Amethyst cant fix it tomorrow, i might let someone else go on the rollers in my place, as the way my car is now, i would be lucky to be getting 140Bhp !!, and it would be a waste of a dyno run for me!, but i hope that wont happen, but if it does, i will still be going and giving you a lift there and back,
It might be worth logging the boost along the way, i will see what you thing on sat morning

At least if you get the fault diagnosed early enough Amethyst might even be able to get the part (if required) in time for the roller's! lets hope so!

Whats your engine code and year on your leon Mosser?
I can cross reference it with a A3 and "borrow" the literature for you engine!
If your car isn't cured than you could use the RR time to diagnose the fault!!!
There is a plastic pipe about 1 inch across that goes into the side of the airfilter box that they have managed to snap the clips off!, and it has diagonal cuts across it like it has been caught in the cooling fans at some time too, not sure what this pipe does as it seems to disappear down the front of the engine into a what i can best describe as a big black box !!,
I have taped this pipe back on at the moment, but it doesnt have a very good seal anymore!, does anyone know what this pipe is for?
Where do i find the engine code?, if you know, i will pop out and have a look now, i know it is a 2001 spec model, but bought in december 2000, it was the first of the 2001 spec the dealer had got in!

The engine code will be a three leter code either in the front of your service book or on the sticker in the boot. Normally start with a "A" like AJQ is 180 bhp a3 <2001.
That pipe you mention is from the secondary air system.
Its designed to pump cold air into the intake to lean off the mixture when cold starting and hence heats up the cat quicker.
The black box you see it go into is the air pump. If you can reach the pump there is a small electrical connector on it.
Disconnect it if you wish but it will only run for a few mins anyway.
It says AUQ, which from an earlier thread confirmed that it was a 2001 spec!,
So could this secondary air box and all the plumbing just be disconnected for good?, or do you think it does something usefull?

I would erase your chassis no. mate! not the sort of thing you want on the net!
Let me put it this way,
If i was paying for the part i would simply dissconnect the pump, but if someone eles was company etc then i would get it done.
The system simply warms up your engine Quicker. There are loads of 1.8t's with no s.a.p at all. its all to do with cold start emissions.
You might even find that the pipe isn't that expensive, in this case i would do it.
Ask flapper for a price for the Air pump to air box, Secondary air system pipe.
Cheers, i will ask him tomorrow when i am there!, i have deleted my chassis number but cant see it being usefull to anyone anyway!, i will get it fixed then as its a company car!
It says AUQ, and the vin is VSSZ.........I would erase your chassis no. mate!.........
Steve, you've now got to delete it from your post!!! ;)
