Hi Guy's just trying to get some feed back on tuning boxes, Van aaken,Tunit, ect. I'm thinking of going for a chip (Revo) but have noticed quite a few second hand 'boxes' for sale so I was wondering how they compared to the 'chip's.

Basically you get the same output with either. Most who have boxes luv them, those with chips/reprogramming ditto. I have personally seen more problems with boxes than chips especially in the hot climate of Portugal.

Tuning boxes is usually plugged in after the ECU, using it's signal and adapting it (the + the reason stated above is why I don't personally recommend them).

Have used both and both work fine.
Whilst under warranty buy a (secondhand?) Tuning Box which can be removed quickly if need be.
When warranty runs out sell box on again and get a chip which gives you a bit more boost here and there.
If buying a plug in box make sure it's from a reputable company that has TUV approval or similar.

Especially the cheapie box one that Ian (Driveforward) has got, costs £99 IIRC (he got it for £40-odd on Ebay!) and so far I think it's worked pretty well.

the boxes Sound pretty good,I would prefer a remap but I would have to wait till spring to get the funds together. If I go for a 2nd hand box I could go for it "rite now":D

I've got a second hand TDI 90 (maybe 110 too?) (Powerlink?!) Powerbox, believe its for the 10 pin connection, cost me £500 dealer fit with the car but no longer needed. It's not one of these cheapie-boxes anyway and does work very nicely!

Anybody interested send me a pm,

Cheers,

Edz

TDI PD Tuning box bought from Dellboy on ebay for £65.50 in P&P for my (stock) Ibiza 130 TDI Sport.

Fitted it yesterday, timed myself before and after fitting using chronograph watch - several runs engine fully warmed up, ambient temp 5 degrees C, no wind on long, flat, straight road (several runs). Not too acurate I know, but at least times are relative to one another. Car's at 6100 miles (MY03).

Results: Before After

0-60 8.8 8.3
30-70 thru' gears 8.2 7.4
30-50 (4th) 6.8 5.5
50-70 (6th) 11.1 10.4
50-70 (5th) 7.2 5.7

Not bad for £65.50 methinks! - 'box is from Dragon Performance (www.mrhoot.com), and seems to be genuine VW Audi stamped product.
