Scary loud crack on the way to work..result thumbnail size bullit hole plumb dead center.....Bugga !
I have done a forum search but I would like to know if anyone has had experience with repairs vs new screen ? Particularly if the repairs are good enough rather than having a new screen !

best option would be to contact ur security company as 99% it is covered and the it will be repaired for free or replaced for like £25 or summink,
as long as the person that desides what option happens knows wat there talking about then u shouldnt have a problem with either option, and if ur not happy then u have comeback :D

aint been an apprentice long, 2 years to go lol trying to learn fast though  no prizes for coming second. didnt know Rich that well wasnt there for long before he left. have had no dealings with seat insurance personally. repairs are ok, but depends how bad it is really. as far as i know all they do is stop the crack from spreading. like everything the product is only as good as a fitter, i havent seen any problem but have heard from a fitter that the way they factory fit causes some excess wind noise.

Had a new screen fitted to the Toledo after I'd had it just a few weeks. Same problem, bullet hole from a stone and it was not repairable.

Apart from the chemical smell of the glue for a few days I couldn't tell any difference from the old one. It was done by Autoglass and cost me £50 excess (Tesco insurance) - bloke arrived in a van and asked where the car was, I gave him the keys (it was in the car park at work so he couldn't drive it away) and he came in a hour or so later said he was.

Very good job and I was really impressed by the way he'd managed to get all the bits of glass hoovered. It was a little while later somebody pointed out to me we have laminated screens these days.

One thing, if you've got rain-sensitive wipers make sure you get the right screen, apparently they're different.

I had a repair done on my lat car (small crack about 1cm) and it didn't look any different to me, nor to the garage that did my MOT as they failed my car on the windscreen crack and I had to get a new screen in the end cost me £60 excess

Verdict: get it replaced, you'll have to in the end

I got a small stone chip on my windscreen and autoglass said they could fill it rather than replace the glass the problem is the resin filler has popped out twice now and upon inspection last night I think a part of it has come away again. So I would get the screen replaced but im not going to pay my £50 excess cause hopefully im trading it in 2 weeks.

I got a small crack at the base of the screen that was patche up by Autoglass for free as under insurance, over a year ago. Been thru MOT no probs. Now got a 'bullet' style hole right in the middle above the steering wheel. Been like that since the summer. I think it's a replacement to pass MOT job and I was going to get it repaired/replaced before the weather turned bad but it seems to be staying the same.

We did have a rear screen changed by Autoglass on a BMW. The sealant didn't set (even after a few weeks) and it fell out on the M6:eek:
