View Full Version : Any probs with black Leons?

I'm almost ready to place my order for a Leon Cupra. Black is my preferred colour. Any good/bad experiences with black in particular? e.g. does it seem more prone to chipping than the metallic colours (the metallic blue is 2nd choice at present)

Having read about a few (!) Leon paint problems, I want to make the best long term decision.

Thanks,

Neil

Neil,

Cant comment on the Black but my Imperial blue Cupra is very prone to marking from bird sh*te. You literally have to clean it the second it hits!!!! No stone chipping problems as yet. Car is 4 months old and 3500 miles so far.

I think the Imperial blue looks best by far. http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/wink.gif

2002 spec Leons will come with solid black only......all previous black ones have been "Space Black" pearl effect.

Would not think any feedback would be too relevant for you then...?

I'll let you know of any issues with my Solid Black car when it arrives......not TOO long now....sigh

The new non-pearlescent black is now called 'Ebony Black', but I haven't seen any revised colour charts yet on any of the European SEAT websites...

Although the 'Build your LEON' feature on the SEAT UK is currently down while being revised...so who knows..maybe the new colours will appear...

I should be taking delivery of my 'Ebony' Black LEON some time Oct/Nov and I cant wait...(I will be de-badging it straight away, just to make those BM drivers a bit more curious

Check out my effort at de-badging Lee's black Cupra HERE (http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/Forum21/HTML/000073.html)

Just to really throw the cat among the pigeons, my local dealer (Sutton Park SEAT in Maidstone, Kent) has just told me that they're going *back* to the Pearlescent paint from September onwards! http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/rolleyes.gif

The current Brochure shows the Ebony Black, but that'll be replaced before too long.

So you may want to bear that in mind before making a decision. http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/biggrin.gif

EH?

I have had umpteen quotes from Euro dealers, who ALL told me that MY02 spec was solid black only.......can't beleive they are going back to space black already.....?

I'd suspect that this was a ploy to move some Space Black MY01 Leons late this year / early next year.....were it not for the fact that they are in high demand, and they can't have lotsa stock lying about....

Mik,

Maybe it's SEAT UK only?

I was told this by a SEAT Salesman this afternoon, since I'm putting a deposit down on a new 20VT this weekend. I'd decided on the solid black (ebony) and he told me I would only be able to get the metallic/pearlescant one.

I suppose we'll see when it arrives (in October now http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/frown.gif ) but I really don't mind. As long as it's black or blackish. ;-)

Just looked at the Dutch site and it seems that solid black is for the Cupra and the base model Stella still comes with pearlescent black. Maybe Seat UK will go for pearl black Cupras though - after all, any minor differences make it easier to spot/undervalue an import.

i e-mailed Wim in holland trying to get met black or the met gold on the cupra i see on the Spanish site this the answer this morning:

quote:
before we finalize the order could you tell me weather met gold or met black are colour options for the car? I saw the gold on the Spanish web site for the cupra looks very nice!
thanks Tony

Hi Tony,

The available colours are the same as in the UK, so if you pick a colour from the UK brochure are mail me the colour code I can order this.

In the Toledo was in MY 2001 a Gold metallic paint available, With MY 2002 is not available anymore. In the Leon you can get Mandarin metallic (S2P), but I will not recommend this colour: it’s like orange. Black is available as non metallic (041) and from delivery November as metallic (C9Z).

Regards,

Wim Pruijs

Took delivery of my Leon last Saturday, 5 days after ordering (the showroom model, not demo car). It black (not metalic or pearl) so call it what you will, looks great and as it was the showroom car I knew exactly what I was getting. 1100 miles on the clock now (10 when I picked it up) no problems, engine is starting to loosen up a bit (run in for first 1000 miles).

Seems to be an almighty confusion about spec, from what I can gather :-

SEAT dropped most of the gadgets when the cut the price to £15k, adding a CD autochanger for good measure.

The car I test drove was red and exactly the same as mine except for a power outlet inthe boot - not on mine (who gives a f*** !)

trick mirrors are ties to the electric leather MEMORY seats (not the ones fitted as option now which have no memory) - std mirrors can be electrically folded in out of BMW drivers (i.e. morons) way.

Spec is very good for £15k car but performance is something else (I know new Civic R type is quicker but it looks like an MPV)

i am an ex Subaru driver (so I do appreciate what a quick car is) and the SEAT is quick, the 6 speed box is good with a short change and pretty good ratios. Torque is great and flat from less than 2k rpm - not something you see very often and makes the biggest real world difference to driving.

I got my pearlescent black Leon in January this year. Like any black car it shows chips more than some other colours. But when it is clean boy does it look good and I've done about 12,000 miles already.
