Just as a matter of interest, how did those of you who been re-mapped go about deciding where to get their car done, and why did you ultimately choose that particular company?

Very interested to hear your comments people.:)

I chose Jabbasport:

* price - much cheaper than REVO (my other choice)
* quality - full rolling road data provided - i new what i got. Custom map to my specification.
* performance - 240bhp from a std Cupra. Nuff said :)
* reputation - never heard a bad story about them. Ever.
* service - friendly and honest about what you should/shouldn't do to the car, and happy to have me hang around all day with them talking cars with Mike :)

Ditto.

284BHP on a Leon R from them.
Boost controller so boost can be changed on the fly (if you should want to).

Top team.

I see that ABT the german tuner have approval for use of their bodykits on VAG cars, in a similar deal to AMG/Mercedes or BMW/Alpina it doesnt affect the warranty.

According to Auotcar ABT engine mod's may also be fully factory approved and warranty friendly in the near future.

Now that would put the cat amongst the pigeons.

So why did I choose Revo;-

- Stealth of Moficiation
- Ability to switch back to 'Stock' Factory mode easily
- Stealth of Modification
- Recommendation of product by others
- Stealth of Modification
- Location (Badger Bill is not far away and he has a good reputation)
- Stealth of Modification
- Jabba is a great product but several hundred miles to drive and they are busy, Bill could fit me in, in 3 days after work.
- I like the idea of 300lbs/ft of torque

Yup forgot that - well worth having when it's icy/really wet/snowing ;) You can also use it to switch back to stock.

Chose APR 'cause there is nothing else within hundreds of miles - plain and simple. If Jabba and REVO were close by I'd maybe give Jabba a go, BUT ... Jim at Star recently had a Skoda Octavia vRS in that had been to Jabba and was supposed to have 230BHP - Jim Dyno'd it at 197BHP - work that one out (and it's colder up here too!)! Jim's rollers are well renowned to be spot on too.

Mine dyno'd at 210BHP/228lb/ft on Tuesday and 211BHP/224lb/ft yesterday - got the printouts.

Apart from the odd trial issue REVO seems very good - they need some places in Scotland though.

:D APR
1 no hesistation probs
2 cruise control done @ same time to control progs/extra immobiser
3 jim @ awesome is an apr dealer, and there cust service is excellent
4 only 2 hour round trip (on a good day:D )
5 free code upgrades for life(revo also)
6 stealth of mod
7 stock mode for bad weather/the missis:eek:
8 no extra buttons/boxes/dongles
9 it does what it says on the tin

p.s all my own opinion/thoughts;)

Agreed - I also echo sentiments about boost controller - great fun. Typically I turn it down until I have traction in third in the wet :D...then turn it up again in the dry...its neat.

Chose Revo cus i got the full SPS3 package off KaraK (scoob driver) who won it at the raffle at Rockingham.

I don't have to tell my insurance company about it;)

i don't have to tell my dealer about it :)

Yes they are very fast those Clio Cups, particularly straight line accelration, :rotfl: ;)

Jabba's rollers match Stealths, which are also reputed to be 'spot on' - Go figure.. ;)

I have a dyno run of a Mitsubishi EVO @ Star doing a run.... and the manifold is translucent see thru yellow at the end.... Long runs and high heatsoak. That said.. If under the same conditions a 20VT still produces good power... it must be pretty good to hold up under high load high heatsoak conditions.

All I can say is that the owner was gutted as 230BHP was expected after his Jabba visit, 197BHP was the result - I'm not passing judgement on anyone or any company, but people have a right to know these things - go figure too! :D

There's is'nt any rhyme nor reason... different dyno's on different days rarely ever match.... and people jump to conclusions. How many times have we all seen this, this year at various RR days. (Northampton Motorsport RR anyone? Powerstation anyone?)

Lottery is about as reliable as dyno to dyno let alone different days and conditions... :D

Take the same car back to the source and recheck... cos you never know something might have changed.. So many unknowns. Right to know? Sure... right to know facts and so many variables. Everything else is conjecture.

Not passing judgement either... cos you can't. Apples and Pears.
Good RR days and conditions, and bad ones too.

What seems to be a good rule of thumb tho... At less than ideally cooled RR's, you can almost expect the highest spec'd (on paper, high boost etc) to be the most dissapointing when on the dyno. Higher boost cars run into heatsoak much much faster than stock boosted cars. Usually ending up with happy std engined owners getting more than factory figures and modded ones less than they thought.

Now... if you get a chipped motor that does well despite these conditions, you know it must be a goodun on the real roads. :D :)

I've seen the same video - no way I'd let those guys near my car! If they did something similar to a 20VT, then 197bhp is a good figure!

I've never seen Star max out a motor like that yet, usually as soon as the power starts to dip they stop the power run, been to quite a few Star RR days as a spectator. Usually very careful, not to say I don't believe you but they certainly don't have every turbo glowing on every run!

I agree with what you say though Bill, some very relevant comments in your last post.

Aye true we don't know the conditions or spec of that EVO's motor... maybe highly boosted and mucho powerful, hence loadsa heat and yellow turbo etc... Mine suffered the same long run duration massive heatsoak dyno at Interpro nr Bristol a few months ago.. Mine also went translucent !!! EAK! Scarey stuff.

Some dyno's, surprisingly newer ones, appear to have taken the operator load application away... with computer controlled load resulting in long run times out of the operators control (so they say)... Powerstation and Interpro being 2 such dyno's.

Always a balance of applied load and run time.... either extreme is poor for accurate measurements.

That does seem a rather long run indeed, my recent runs were much shorter than that. He's got a cone filter in the engine bay too - talk about sucking in hot air!!!

That EVO appears to be a Ralliart Extreme-S, titanium turbo and 350BHP standard I think. Quite amazing to see something like that, I'm going to go up and watch the next EVO RR day at Star!

Saw the glow off your turbo too - yes very hot indeed!

Jabba's power run is about 10 secs or less, and Stealths is a bit longer but not by much....

have to say in any RR day's I have have been to at star the cars are barely allowed to warm up. I always go first or second for that reason.
