Had a bit of a road rage incident with some n*b*nd recently while waiting in a long very slow moving queue at a set of lights.Said N*bend screeched to a halt alongside me to my left on the hard shoulder, wound down his window and started shouting that my f*chin brake lights were not working, I informed him that I had taken on board his advice and could now continue on his way:mad: .After more similar exchanges  he did as initially instructed. On getting to my work I got a colleague to stand at the back of me R to check my lights, they were working fine.Just to double check that evening I got the G/F to drive behind me as we were both taking our cars to the same place, when we got there she said that my brake lights had only came on twice on the entire journey although I had braked at least half a dozen times. My query is this: If I am travelling v slowly e.g < 5mph and I brake ever so slightly to come to a halt are the Rs Brembo brakes so strong that the brake lights dont register AS THIS SEEMS TO BE WHATS HAPPENING!!They only appear to come on if I really push the brake pedal about a 1/2 way in, which with the Brembos is almost an emergency stop.Just tickling the brake is usually enough to slow the car adequately.

Anyone had a similar finding? :box:

Should have nothing to due with what brakes your running. As soon as you tap the brakes, the lights should come on (even your not reducing speed).

Probably just the plastic brake light switch (on top of pedal arm) that moved from it's place.

just adjust the brake light switch a bit, so when you just touch the pedal, the lights come on, its honestly a 1 min job, BUT i agree, you shouldnt HAVE to do it, looks like a trip to the dealer!

Ok I'm probably being stupid here but...I've got the same rear light problem and I had a look on saturday but couldn't find the switch.

What does it look like (apart from a switch :) )?
Do I have to remove any of the lower dash to get to it

the switches are generally like a black rectangle box, with a spring loaded plunger coming out of the top of it, the box will have an electrical connecter going to it aswell!
best bet it to follow the brake pedal upwards and youll find it easy enough, it will prob have an adjuster on it in the form of a small plastic nut, which determins how far away the end of the plunger sits from the pedal. i dont know what its like to get to it on the leon, but on the ibiza you just remove the fuse box cover and its there.
Hope thats a bit of help

I do remember a while back someone having the same problem, saying they came on late (i.e: you had to press the brake hard).

Do a search and you may come up with the answer

I have a small amount of 'dead' pedal travel where the lights won't show.

I actually find it quite amusing torelive the bordeom to see if you can get from A to B without using the brakes, best I've managed is from Woking town centre on to my drive which is about 3 miles.

It's especially funny when there is some idiot behind you:p

Have a mate who is a traffic cop, and as he was doing his Class 1 driving instruction, one of the things they tried was to see which of the pupils could go the furthest without touching their brakes (this is on normal roads, not a straight run on the motorway)

The best in my mate's intake was 9.4 miles around Wakefield !

Apparently they had one bloke pull up alongside them at the lights and told them their brake lights weren't working ! Suffice to say he went beetroot coloured when he found out who they were and that they simply hadn't used them for a few miles ! :rotfl:

I think I'll revise my original guesstimate to circa 6 miles: Ridgewood NHS Trust, Frimley to Knaphill covering from memory, 4 T junctions (with no lights), 3 roundabouts, 7 sets of lights. I was giving my dad a lift and he thought, as usual, I wa driving like an idiot:D

Not quite as much fun, I've tried driving everywhere in 2nd gear before - just managed a short trip to sainsbury's:p

I've noticed the brake light not coming on when using light braking (i.e. when stuck in traffic jams!!!!) in my 03 Cupra R. I'm paranoid about someone shunting me now. Looks like a trip to the dealers unless it really is easy to fix myself.

Just for the record. I had my brake light switch replaced at a dealer yesterday. It took them 40 minutes (a bit longer than someones quoted 2 minutes). Apparently the switches are crap so they just replace them (are they adjustable??? I'm not sure).

So my advice is to take it to a dealer if you get the problem, rather than attempting a DIY job.
