They vary, and VW specs have little to with ACEA or API specs. Why is it you want to know?

Oilman thanks for reply. I was advised to get ASDA's own synth oil for 18 quid and it only had those API /ACEA specs, hence the query. I have now visisted the local store of GSFcarparts.com and they offered me Carlube synth, VW505.00, for my 2001 1.9TDi Alhambra.

I take it you dont have a PD diesel engine fitted? If so then a good 10w-40 semi synthetic or better still a good 5w-40 synthetic is ideal.

GSF used to supply Fuchs oils and they are very good (factory fill for VAG) and you can find them here http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-394-fuchs-engine-oil.aspx The XTR 10w-40 or the Supersyn 5w-40 will be fine. GSF have now moved to Carlube, a very bad move for GSF as Carlube is pretty cheap and chearful to say the least.

Cheers
