jumping out of reverse

I have a problem on my 2.0 8v GTi Ibiza I need to hold it in reverse either that or reverse very gently and even then it is very very whiney feels like it is not properly in gear but the lever won't move any! Is it a selector mechanism problem or a whole box thing, anyone had this before

Quite a common problem this, i think the selectro linkage is worn, but quite pricey to have replaced from memory. Id live with it unless you get a good proce (sub £100)
