Just got my car to the dealer who said they are replacing all the old style coilpacks for free as they are all faulty.

Also found out that when you chip your car it wont respond with the AA's diagnostic tool. He also said this is ILLEGAL - as the police cant check the emissions from the lamba probe.
Anyone else been told this??

the police should be able to check your rediness code. not sure how old that is now though.
but never hered of a chip interfearing with this.
more likely the AA didnt no what he was doing.

if the apr chip is anything like the revo remap, then thats bullshite
Its undectecable unless the ECU is interigated by far more advanced systems than seat's diag' tool, or vw tool.
So im sure the AA tool wont be able to tell the difference between a chipped ecu and a std ecu.
To be honest, ive yet to be impressed with the AA, their patrol men just dont seem to know what they are talking about:(

wot would be?
the fact the aa tool wont read it.
or that the police cant test it. as the poliece can test it.

Which bit is bollocks Bill?

The bit about the police being able to read your emissions via the diagnostics port IS TRUE! My mate was recently training to be a consultant technition for Citreon and in his training notes it had about how the OBD-II ports are a legal requirement and that the police have to be able to check your emissions using it!

Strange but true!

Maybe some truth behind it?!
i have access to the new AA Vixen tool and a 1552 VAG machine with all the catalogues at home!!

If i ever get my car chipped i'll check whether the Vixen has problems

Wile

I have been sold a "stock" Ibiza 20VT and the coilpacks went a couple of weeks ago. The AA Patrol man couldnt get a reading either.

Could this just be coincidence or is there some way to check if it has been chipped.

tried the Vixen on my Standard R and it had no problems interrogating the ECU

AA man couldn't get a reading out of my car with his tool when he plugged it in. Works fine with Seat's diagnostic tools and my VAG-COM, so I'm guessing he didn't know what he was doing or the tool was broken.

What about cars that are too old to have an ECU - surely they can't be checked for emissions in this way? Or does it only apply to cars with cats?

I don't have too much faith in the AA either. The only time I ever called them, the guy couldn't get my old Fiesta started. I ended up calling a mobile mechanic who got it running in less than half an hour.
