Hi all,

Just had my insurance renewal notice from AXA and was surprisd to see it had increased from about £750 last year to £915 this year !!!!

Had a chat with an AXA bloke on the phone and removing my business use (I won't need it this year) dropped this down to arond £680. I also decided that I ought to let the girlfriend have a drive of it so got her put on as a named driver, fully comp. Couldn't beleive that this reduced the cost by a staggering £200 ! So I'm now looking at a £480 hole in my pocket as opposed to a £915 one. It definitely pays to query your renewal quote.

(BTW it's a 2001 un-modded 1.8 20VT Ibiza and I'm 28, full no-claims, no convictions, no accidents etc.)

I was one happy customer, the only downside being that the GF now wants £200 worth of Xmas pressies........:(

wow thats nuts considering that you have full NCD etc and adding her bought the premium down!

Tho tbh their quote for £915 was taking the piss considering your age and history:think:

I'm *only* 21 with 4 yrs NCD and was getting similiar quotes..

insurance can be weird eh... as you say it deffo helps to have a chat and see what could bring the cost down!

In my experience, it's postcode that makes the biggest difference. I've always had very low quotes.

My brother moved about 10 miles and his insurance doubled!
He's 26 with 4 years no claims and his policy for a 2.0 8V Mk4 golf gti is almost a grand
I'm getting quoted about 600 quid fully comp on an S3 from directline. I'm 24 with 3 years no claims.

Go figure.

Also to do with regularity and value of claims, and also the profile of person claiming. Bet the S3 is not typically driven by young 20s and that claim values are maybe even cheaper than for Ibiza Cupras (driven by young guys, who obviously crash a lot:o )

my insurance cost me £1055 for the year, I'm 23 and this is my first car so first insurance policy. Not bad i thought, put my Dad on as named driver, that lowered it by £100. www.belldirect.co.uk gave me cheapest quote by a good few hundred quid!!:D
