Just got my Leon 110 Tdi on Wednesday and I'm very pleased with it so far (despite havng to run it in).
The handbook mentions specific oil that must be used, something like VW 500 51. What does this mean? I assume it's some sort of Volkswagen specific oil or some industry standard grade identifier?

Looks like VW specific to me.

My father used Castrol GTD Magnatec at his last change...... universal oil spec should be in your handbook somewhere.

5L - 115vag430

available using those part nos from any VW GROUP dealership

were using castrol magnatex at present if it helps somewhat , as it is available in tank fills

Never use oil from another type as specified!

My manual says only to use VW50501 for my 150 HP P/D. And 'TDI RC' of TDI club (http://www.tdiclub.com) (who has an 180+HP TDI(!) (original 1.9-90HP) warned me for using oils of other types!

My 'just opened' local dealer, FRF Seat in Swansea, has advised me that they would use Shell Helix semi-synthetic oil. They were a little unsure at first, as their mechanic was still undergoing Seat training and wasn't onsite http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/eek.gif. They also have a Mazda dealership and it was one of their technicians who said they use Shell Helix.

Do I just trust it to the dealer, go with Castrol GTD Magantec or go for Mobil 1 Trubo Diesel 0W-40 oil (as I'm keeping the car for years) http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/rolleyes.gif ?

Thanks,

make sure of what motor type ya running as the latest PUMP diesel has its OWN SPECIFIC OIL

according to the UK dealer, Service is every 10,000miles and a oil change is 6000 miles. Do you change the oil yourself?

I'm going to be doing 25000 miles a year, so popping back to the dealer every 6000 miles will be a pain

According to my inspection and maintenance plan book which came with my Cupra and covers all petrol and direct injection diesels incliding SDI and TDI. The service intervals are as follows:

Oil change every 10,000 miles

Inspection (service) every 20,000 miles.

Notes that all diesel engines require a cambelt change at 60,000 miles which combined with the 60,000 mile service will
be pretty expensive.

The 20v engine requires a cambelt change at 120,000 miles.

I know that all Audi garages use fully synthetic oil, but my local Seat garage
reccomended semi-synthetic for the same petrol engine. Perosnally I change the oil my self and use Mobil 1 fully synthentic, I know they do a diesel version as well.

Mobil 1 is also fitted as standard to all Porches and TVR's, so it can't be that bad
