View Full Version : Do Seat car dealers take 19yr olds seriously?
Hey ppl
Last year I walked into the Chesunt dealership with £5500 to spend on a second hand Ibiza.
I wanted a 1.4 mk 3 (P/R reg), which is well within that range.
I felt that although my details were taken, I wasnt being taken seriously enough.
I know they specialise in NEW cars, but ya know. I dont really think they gave a toss about me. I went to chase up after 2 or 3 weeks, and they said they had an unwanted Ibiza 1.4 out back (no call 2 ask if I was interested). It was white n shite, so didnt want it.
I pulled up a month and a half later in a Red 1.4 SXE R reg with 13k on the clock, and told them nicely to take me off da wanted car list. Good car in great condition.
No doubt u r a good garage guys, cos there's been only positive stuff said! Im not having a dig, but take potential customers like myself seriously nx time ;)
....Im not sure if its the fact Chesunt dont really have many good used SEAT car contacts. Nice place, clean and friendly anyway.
:drink: cheers
Bring your SXE to the Galleria on Sunday and rub it in a bit more!! ;) :D ;)
would love to mate ;) .....but can't make it.
The next meet u guys have, I is well up 4 it!
(as long as its around north london/herfordshire of course lol)
*wish I had a Cupra*
;)
Smithy,
Do you know who you spoke to when you went down there?
Seems a shame really that you wernt taken seriously but I am sure that they might see what has happened with hindsite.

I had the same kinda trouble from Meadons, treated me like shit after they got my cash. Took some harsh action to finally get them to do the work they promised before I parted with my hard earned.
Cornerhouse on the other hand were very helpfull, they even picked me up and dropped me back into Oxford when I went to look at my cordoba. Needless to say, I brought it from em.

see your text below your details says to be fitted at lunchtime, take it you got it then!!
I used to cab a girl whose family were seriously loaded, I mean big big-time!
Approaching her 17th birthday, she told me her dad had said she could have a BMW X5 for her first car!!!
(OK - not suitable at 17, I agree)
One day, we had a spare hour to kill and so we went to a BMW dealer, me in jeans, unshaved etc and her dressed like any other scruffy teenager.
She looked at the X5 in the showroom and then went over to the salesman who peered up at her, looked at me and then buried his head back into his paperwork and ignored her.
Suitably offended, she turned away and made for the door.
As we left, I went back over to him and told him who she and her family were.
His face was a picture!! He was up out of his seat crying "Madame, madame......."
We just drove off.
PS - their other cars are Lambo Diablo, Bentley Mulsanne, Porsche Carrera 4, Mercs, Jags, Range Rovers.
Brian,
I think that you need to introduce me to this young lady!
ho ho ho!

Can't remember who I spoke 2 when I went into the garage as it was bout October 2000, my memory as a student isnt good :D
dunno the reason behind it  ;)
....gonna try and make the meeting on Sunday btw, b cool 2 check out sum phat motors :p
Yeah Brendy you can have her at weekends and school holidays :D
As long as she comes back in good working order!

Smithy,
I saw Pete last night and I gave him a copy of what you had put on the forum and he could not place who you were, he will be over on Sunday in the Flash Red Ibiza with Cheshunt Motor Company stickers all over the car, you could speak to him, but I think that yesterday was his last day :(
Si
CupraSi,
If Pete doesnt work for Chesunt anymore, then why will he have a driving advertisment for the place???
Also, it seems that in every post u send, yur car is in the garage for one reason or another .....wot the hell r u doing 2 that poor car mate!!!! :D
I doubt talkin 2 Pete about my experience will do any good, it'll just seem a bit patronising. Also, it may not even b him I origionally spoke 2, as 1 of the guys I was speaking 2 at the beginning left the garage the next time I went in. I visited about 4 different occasions.
Anyways, hopefully c most of u nuttah's on Sunday ;) (in my standard piece of shite LOL)

Smithy,
Pete finishes with the company on Monday so he has the company car until then thats why he will still be in it lol!
Yeah the cars been in the garage for about three weeks in total mate but that aint got owt to do with the dealership and a lot more to do with the fact that I seem to have go the last shitter off the end of the production line, shit happens I guess and I have been looked after by Cheshunt and thats why I posy about them and I think that Brian would say the same
Oh well see ya tommorow in my Ebony Black Beeza Cupra Shed complete with Halfords Smelly Air Freshner thingy!

I had the same experiance when I was 21, had £16,000 to spend, with a shortlist of new cars:
Audi A3 1.6 (with options)
VW Passat 1.8S
VW Golf GT TDi
Nissan Primera 2.0SLX
The VW garages didn't even want to talk to me, the Audi Garage let me take an A3 1.8T Sport out for 30mins, but offered crap PX on old Primera.
Nissan offered 24 hour test drive, and finally gave me a 6 week old Primera 2.0GT for £16K with 1000 miles on clock, plus offer on fully comp ins for £460.
That was Jaunary 98, still got the car, but me mum drives it now as I got a company car, then had to buy a TDi....

I found Cheshunt were alright when I was younger. I bought a used Rover 214 from them when they were a Rover dealer, when I was only 20. The sales guy Steve was really good, couldn't have been more helpful. And it paid off for him in the long run, as I automatically went back to him when I bought the Leon Cupra. I was only 22 when I was buying that, yet he wasn't patronising at all and was more than happy to give me a test-drive despite my age and the car I was looking at.
It's a crying shame that Steve defected to V*uxhall, he was a really good bloke. He kept his promises too after you'd bought the car, which is better than his successor managed.
And Pete (if you're reading this, and I know you do!), you never got me those locking wheel nuts or the SEAT rally jacket you promised me
Phill
Phill,
It would appear that Peter promised a lot of people a lot of things me included and never came up with the goods
Never mind eh we all live in hope and at leat you have had good service before!
Si
I was 19 when i got my baby, now im 21 and i cant walk into a dealer with my dad without the staff assuming that me dads the customer.......................

Im 21 and today saw that my local dealer (Aronal Clark Seat Elderslie) had a ibiza cupra in,
I decided to go have a look and went inside, salesman was busy with another customer so a chap id seen in there a few times before came over. Was very friendly let me have a good look over thae car and i can have a test drive this weekend if i want it. Anyway turns out he is the general manager, nice guy.
we discussed the price so for x reg ibiza cupra 11K on the clock £10,100. Which i think seems not bad, even got the history of who owned the car as it was bought from them.
Must say its nice to be treated properly as in the other seat garage i was in they just couldnt be bothered with me! Okay so its not a huge amount ive got to spend, but a sales a sale and its alot of money to me!

Mark,
At the end of the day none of us are rich and its all a lot of money but that should not make a difference if you wanna buy a car and if its any consolation at 29 I dont think its changed lol!

The Audi garage I mentioned above (Sheppards of Bishops Stortford) said that even if they think someone is just there to waist time you can't afford to take the risk.......that was 4 years ago......times may have changed, but its true.
When I bought my Leon I went into Cheshunt SEAT with old jeans on and a T-Shirt, one week later I had spent £13.5K...
