View Full Version : de cat pipe
does anyone do a de cat pipe?
i know that you can't just fit one if the car has 2 lambda sensors (which the mk3 20vt does)

I have fitted the supersprint full system and this comes with the pre and post cat sensor boss already welded on the pipe, what a difference it makes.
my figures are 213bhp with 246lbt with a big fat :D cheers Jabbasport

so you have done nothing about the pre, post lambda sensors???
I was looking down this route but didn't fancy the hassle of tricking my ecu as this can be a ball ache to set up and get right.
Having said that a few have done this decat mod and have found after a while they are indeed running rich/lean.
Have you got an enlarged downpipe too???
I'd heard that the pre/post lambda influence the fuelling very little, their only function is to identify that the cat is doing it's job and you're not driving about in a car that would fail an emissions test.
Bryan is running the supersprint decat and downpipe combo...I'm thinking of doing the same - hoping to get a ride/listen to his tomorrow :)

Hi Deejay,
My spec is as listed on the bottom of the page, the supersprint de-cat pipe is from the turbo back ie one pipe. Yes it is slightly bigger and it came with the two boses that the sensors screw into already welded on the pipe. The pre cat lambda sensor must remain but the post cat sensor can be removed as it reports back to the ecu that the cat is working within the set parameters and as there isn’t one the mil light on the dash is on. The de-cat pipe was fitted the week before I went to jabbasport for the remap, I made them aware that the pipe was being fitted and they said to take it easy until they had mapped the car to the mods. So yes fitting a de-cat with a standard chip/ecu there may be a problem of running rich/lean but with a custom map I would say your safe if the mapping has been carried out correctly.
I'm looking into a fix for the post cat sensor, if I'm succesfull I'll make you a fix if you decide to change the pipe
I've had a look on your website and like what i see, very nice indeed.
Rgds, Bryan
What time do you want to meet up Adam?
From what ive gathered you WILL get a cell light on the dash eventually, which then leads to all sorts of shenanigans-ecu cutting back power etc if something isnt done with the lambda sensors b4 hand.
loads of topics on vw vortex about this.
From memory you have to drill a hole and site the pre cat lambda back into the exhaust, then the post cat lambda can be tricked with a capacitor and resistor in parallel connected to it.
The pre and post cat sensors are in place, just as if the oe dp was still fitted.

you can - I drive it like this for half a year. All you have is the yellow light in the dash - due to the false lambda second senzor reading, but it only checks for O2 and it's got nothing with adjusting the engine. It's safe and it gives about 25 HP if you replace the downpipe too.
I also checked the emissions - they're about 6 times higher then normal. :( :(

I think you had a thread going sometime ago about the magic box that puts the mil light out on the dash. I have done a search but cant find it, do you know what section it was in? Im trying to get as much info as possible to make a fix for the post cat sensor.
Cheers, Bryan

Sorry m8, I must have missed the post. If you find it please send it also to me. I just clean the fault codes by using VAG-COM once a week and the light stays off :) :)
