View Full Version : Bought me a Beefa on saturday!!!

Well i finally did it, after changing my mind about 250 times over the past few weeks i finally bought an Ibiza, spec:

Ibiza 130 TDI Sport
53 Plate (Reg 18 Sept)
MY03 Spec so got the extra guages and speakers
Eclipse Blue
2,900 miles
Chrome vents.

In a way i'm gutted as it means my Leon Cupra is going but at least i'm replacing it with a car i'm happy with. Its time to be sensible for a while until i've bought a house. Just waiting for my loan to come through then i'll be able to pick it up!

* Couple of questions - i want the strut brace (SEAT Sport), is it just a bolt on job or do the turrets need drilling?
* How exactly do you fit the chrome vent surrounds?
* What cheap-ish mods do you guys suggest?
* Will my sun-glasses holder (from my Leon) fit the Ibiza?

:D

Tell me about it!

Was quite shocked at how close it feels (in terms of speed and pull) to my Leon - VERY VERY close in fact! Have to get that app for SCNSSC sorted out:D

mmm nice car.... good choice.. you wont regret it.

anyway.... the strut brace is just a bolt on jobbie.. easy.. Ian (driveforward) has done it and can guide u as to the exact procedure.

Chrome air vents - ian will know again

cheapish mods..... hmmm depends on what u mean by cheap...

dunno about the sunglasses holder.

Cheers Stew,

It looks like the sun-glasses holder might fit but i'm sure there was some kind of problem (seem to remember something about the screws being too long????)????

cheap mods - under £100 for now - just bits n pieces really to make it look nice and a bit different to standard - think i'll get the chrome gear lever surround, SEAT/Momo pedals, strut brace - cheap mods such as these

big ALI H
22-12-2003, 09:54
Another quick question - I took it for a blast on saturday and soon realised the standard headunit sounded crap. I'll therefore be fitting my Kenwood headunit. Will i need an adaptor to fit it? How does the standard unit come out? I presume it standard DIN size?

Cheers Guys:cheers:

Yup, don't fit the holder - toXXin added a nice dent to his roof with one of those :(

Was that due to the screws being too long? If so will it fit if i cut them down?

Ian can answer your radio question as well.

(sigh... wish i had a Mk4 130 then i could answer evryones quesitons):(

The radio is din sized yes. You need two keys to remove it though. If you have a local dealer pop in and ask if they could pop it forward for you. They shouldnt charge.

Or PM me you address and i'll see if I can dig some out and ill post them to you.

Welcome to the diesel club btw ;)

Also I have done a fair bit of mod work to my Skoda, most of which would be applicable to your Ibiza, have a look in sig :)

Cheers

Yup - as Techie says mate, try putting the stereo in the bottom DIN like I have done, then put the tray thing in upside down in the top slot - allowing simultainious stereo and cupholder use! ;)

Stew, you're better off with a MK3, of which the only downsides are the stereo and the lack of a 6th gear :p

Congratulations Ali! I hope you enjoy it...you got a nice colour too (I still regret not getting one!)

* Couple of questions - i want the strut brace (SEAT Sport), is it just a bolt on job or do the turrets need drilling?

Nope, they just bolt on. Mine hasn't been fitted yet, but I'll do it in a week or so.

* How exactly do you fit the chrome vent surrounds?

With a lot of bloody effort! I did mine last Saturday and they were an absolute pain to do, as I can remember from the 1.4. I didn't hash it up like I did with the old one but I still have a couple of scratches here and there!

* What cheap-ish mods do you guys suggest?

More chrome! Door pins are about £6, gear lever surrounds are a tenner, grille kits are £26.99 (but you only need the centre one really!) primed mirror covers are about £4 each and a tin of spray paint from Halfords is a tenner. The strut brace is a cheap mod too, I think they are about £50. I'm not a fan of the SEAT/Momo/Max Power pedals, I have a set of Audi TT/Beetle/Fabia vRS pedals which cost me £21 from the local VW dealer. All bar the accelerator fit straight on, the accelerator just needs a bit of trim tape to secure it, but it will never come of when driving.

* Will my sun-glasses holder (from my Leon) fit the Ibiza?

NO! DON'T DO IT! Me and SteveTDI from SE have both done it to our cars and both of us dented the roof! Shorter screws still dont eliminate the risk of it happening. Anyway, they don't sit right in the car as the headlining is a different shape.

Another quick question - I took it for a blast on saturday and soon realised the standard headunit sounded crap. I'll therefore be fitting my Kenwood headunit. Will i need an adaptor to fit it? How does the standard unit come out? I presume it standard DIN size?

I have the keys here. I got mine from my friendly VW dealer who just gave me a packet without two thoughts. I bet you VW won't do this now so if you PM me your address I'll pop them in the post.

May I ask how much you paid for the TDI?

Cheers Ross, if you fancy it, i'll be prepared to swap your wheels for mine. Just let me know when you're ready mate:p ;) :D

Ian, you any idea on the chrome vent fitting mate? Also the same with the strut brace?

Me thinks toXXin just answered that ^^ :p

I will agree with what he said about the fitting of the vent surrounds, I had to have the plastic repaired around my centre vents as during fitting they made a bit of a mess (mind you it was an MG Rover chappie that probably fitted them :hammer: )

Strut brace is simple, just don't drop one of the bolts into the engine bay like i did, then spend an hour and a half playing with a magnet on the end of a stick to retrieve the damn thing!! :head:

22-12-2003, 10:50
Cheers Ian, just posted then saw toxxins reply:redface:

Toxxin, you know of a fitting guide at all for the vent surrounds? I paid £12,495 for mine and got £1k more than anywhere else was prepared to give me for my Leon Cupra due to its high miles. Also got the vent surrounds( not fitted though hence the need for some help!), a tank of fuel and mats thrown in.

As soon as i get it, i'll get some piccies posted!!!

Oh, are the door lock pins a SEAT part?? If so, any part numbers??

You got PM mate. Also, is it just plug n play or is there an (wiring) adaptor needed for my Kenwood?

If your kenwood is fitted in your leon the adaptors that came with it will be the same ones that are needed for the ibiza.

All the relevant converters came with my stereo so I can only presume the same.

big ALI H
22-12-2003, 11:06
I never fitted it to my Leon as it has the CD changer and liked that. I suppose it not a massive problem if i have to nip down to Halfords and buy an adaptor anyway - its only 10 minutes away.

Tom B
22-12-2003, 11:20
Chrome door pins
6L0 099 003. They are part of the accessories range.

Your stereo should fit straight in without the need for wiring adaptors. My Clarion did and I'm sure the loom is the same as every other manufacturers.

The vent rings have fitting instructions, the problem lies with a tool that SEAT quote you should use. None of us have seen this tool (Ross, have you?) so we just use things like knives to dismantle the vents.

As I was going to say, the deal you got was very good, with the £1000 extra they gave you for your Leon, it works out that you paid £55 less than I did and got mats included. My car is 4 months older than yours and has almost double the miles.

Al, you'll have a PM back shortly.

big ALI H
22-12-2003, 11:42
Excellent, cheers Tom.

I'm over the moon with the deal i got. I just can't wait to get it now!

I've recently (5 weeks ago) stopped smoking and i'm putting the money i'd have spent on cigs in a jar - counted up last night and i've got £200:eek: :) Therefore i've now got some money to go spend on bits n bobs for the Beefa!!!

List so far is:
SEAT Sport Strut Brace - £50
Chrome gear lever surround - £10
Chrome Door pins - £6-7
Momo/ SEAT pedals - £30
Rear mud flaps - £24 (although i might get some cheap ones for a fiver)
Change headunit (and put in lower slot) - £0

Works out to around £120, better use the rest to keep the girlfriend happy and take her for a meal or something:D ;)

Again, cheers for all the advice guys, both before in helping me decide what car to go for and now with all the above advice:cheers:

As for help, give us a shout any time as between us all we've probably dismantled most bits off the Ibiza etc (many have just come off FIAT style tho :p )

This might seem a silly questions but do strut braces really improve the handling.
I only have a 100 bhp TDI but any advice would be useful.
Cheers.

There are various opinions on this. Some say they do, some dont.

Personally I think its £50 well spent. I felt the difference but that was on lowered and uprated suspension.

I say get one, look the nadgers anyhow and take mins to fit.

Where does one purchase a strut brace?
Is it a specialist or a SEAT dealer?

Cheap power gains are to be had using the tuning box that Ian (driveforward) has got. Normally £99 but I think Ian got it lots cheaper.

Alternatively read the "Cheap Mod" thread in the TDI forum :D

driveforward

Yup, I got one for £45 on eBay brand new.

Or you could follow muddy's cheap mod thread and aim to pay £0.45 :p

big ALI H
23-12-2003, 08:47
TBH i don't want to start messing around with the cars wiring as i don't have a clue. Think id rather pay £45 or even £99 for the tuning box you got Ian, at least i know i can plug and un-plug whenever i want and it'll be less likely to blow the car up

There were some even cheaper ones on eBay the other day coming from Germany. £34 delivered (they were actually £24+£10 delivery!)

Sounds good guys, probably gonna leave it for a few months and just play for a while before i get a tuning box. Although i said i was gonna buy an Ibiza in Jan/ Feb and look what happened :D ;) :p

Just been home to check if the loan documents had arrived and they had. Now all filled in and on their way back so hopefully they'll get them tomorrow and get the money into my account. Don't think it'll be before next week now though:mad: Nevermind, suppose i've got a few more days to play with my Leon :D and to also order the other chrome bits, strut brace, pedals, mud flaps etc so i can fit them when i pick it up :bounce:

hmm

be careful. my pioneer deh7500mp required an adapter thingy, which I got from halfords. I also fitted an aerial booster thing, which improves signal.

sorry to hijack the thread but Tom, where do you get the short roof arials from? I'm fed up with my ibiza looking like a remote controlled car (and I'm guessing thats another cheap mod Al could make)

I had my Strut brace fitted the same time as I got the Seat Sport suspension kit done, (incidentally the suspension seems to have settled down now, about 20mm lower all round than stock), and the combination of the two things (suspension+brace) makes the car handle *much* better.

If you're not worried about dealers fussing in regards suspension, it might be better to get the Koni/Eibach kit like Ross has fitted, as I think it'd probably work out slightly cheaper than the Sachs/Eibach kit which Seat sell.

Any of you guys know how easy it is to remove the yellow dial surrounds??? Thought it might be an idea to either colour code them with the car or chrome them? Alternatively can you buy them chromed or primed from SEAT?

This is a big :head:

I wanted mine spraying silver, but the options they came up with included spraying them IN THE CAR or taking out most the dash to get them out and re spray them. Rage managed to remove his to spray them silver, but I think he broke 2 in doing so.

As far as I'm aware they're not classed as individual parts you are able to order.

The motto here is: Get used to them - I have!

If I bought an Eclipse Blue one, I would've covered them in electrical tape or something to prevent me being blinded or something ;)

If it was me, I'd take the risk like Simon did. Alternatively, I know of a scrapped TDI 130 in York that has Imp Red interior, which means it has black rings.

Click here! (http://www.simpsonsalvage.com/item.php?t=B&makemodel=Seat&trimlevel=&fueltype=&pics=pics&orderby=MakeModel&t=B&value=106834)

To swap them won't be easy, and will need VAG-COM and a lot of work, I'm sure of it.

Don't know if you have gotten enough info for the vent ring mod but here you go anyways: http://rmk.hamk.fi/~konttmi1/seat/mods/ventrings/
I got some tips from toXXin and sprayed mine silver. Quite easy to do after all, but the side rings seemed to be impossible to separate from the outer rings. If you don't have the chrome rings yet, I'd consider spraying the stock ones silver. Looks really good, me thinks.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!

Thanks again for all the help guys. As it happens i had the vent rings thrown in but not fitted. What a fecking ball ache they were to fit! They are now in (although not properly) and look great. I've also fitted the chrome gear lever surround, a new gear knob, chrome door lock pins, SEAT Sport Strut Brace. I've also got some Momo pedals and rear mudflaps to fit when i've got a minute (possibly this weekend).

Taken some pics but have left the camera at home so it won't be until Monday that i can post them up.
